It's really frustrating, isn't it? I would so much like to be able to donate blood now that I'm SVR. I hope that as the numbers of us who are SVR increases steadily, eventually there will be new tests and new policies that will allow the use of our blood. It seems wasteful of resources to exclude such a large percentage of the population.
The above posters wre very helpful. I would say that you probably can't. Mainly because they would check your blood and it would come back positive for the antibody, they would turn you down.
You might be able to discuss with Red Cross.
Good luck
Check with the Red Cross. HCV antibodies make you ineligible for blood and plasma. I recall reading somewhere (can't locate the information at this time) that you may be able to donate platelets. But, proceed with caution and fully disclose your situation.
No. Even though you no longer have the virus, you still have the antibodies which would exclude you from blood donation. Below is from the Red Cross.
"What tests are administered to ensure my blood is safe to distribute to patients?"
"Antibody to hepatitis C virus, indicating a current or past infection with hepatitis C virus (most common cause of non-A/non-B hepatitis)."
