Okay thank you! Do you know by any chance if I was in a bad car wreck and air lifted to a hospital would they test me for infectious diseases I was unconscious for awhile but then I woke up I remember asking if I could be test for and I was hoping the rn would pass it on to the Dr and when it was time for me to get discharged they told me I was healthy and blessed and everything was normal
For an accidental stick involving a medical person and a patient with known hep C the odds of transmission are about 1.8%
Hep c is transmitted by blood to blood contact if concerned you can be tested at 6 months post to have confidence in the results. At 6 months post the antibody test is about 99% or better.
However your risk of hep c in this instance is likely low. Just to add I am not a medical person of any kind the best person to ask about your health is your doctor
Hi there, I understand your fear however I don't think you should worry about HCV Do you know the status of this patient? If she has anything, her blood would have to get in to your blood.
I read someplace on here that even nurses who have a needle stick have a very low percentage of getting HCV.
You would need to ask the HIV forum about transmission of HIV however I would first check to see if the patient even has it.
Others will be along soon, I just wanted to try to calm your fears
Good luck, Dee
