Eyeexposure

Qkb
Hello I am a cna and the other day I was standing beside my patient that has her iv in her hand that she had just pulled out and I remember seeing something light pink on the ground so I knew it was iv fluid and blood mixed I am now scared that I may have got a tiny splash of it in my eye I had a mask covering my nose all the way up to the bottom of my eye I'm not sure if it hit the inside of my eye or not or if it's just in my head after I felt like something dropped in my eye from when she dropped it on the floor I quickly eased my eye out now I'm worrying myself to death about hiv and hepatitis c

For an accidental stick involving a medical person and a patient with known hep C the odds of transmission are about 1.8%

Hep c is transmitted by blood to blood contact if concerned you can be tested at 6 months post to have confidence in the results. At 6 months post the antibody test is about 99% or better.

However your risk of hep c in this instance is likely low. Just to add I am not a medical person of any kind the best person to ask about your health is your doctor

Hi there, I understand your fear however I don't think you should worry about HCV  Do you know the status of this patient? If she has anything, her blood would have to get in to your blood.
I read someplace on here that even nurses who have a needle stick have a very low percentage of getting HCV.
You would need to ask the HIV forum about transmission of HIV however I would first check to see if the patient even has it.
Others will be along soon, I just wanted to try to calm your fears
Good luck, Dee
