2 ay max....and raw in the shell...if they are not in the shell,,,,very little seliumem in them
ive posted that take the recommended daily amounts and too much can be toxic
Viruses running rampant! Hope not anymore than they are with my HCV.
I think it is 2 selenium nuts per day. That's what I'm doing.
Just be careful on the selenium - even with the brazil nuts, we should not have tooooo many (I can't remember how many, I used to snack on them at work then found out about the selenium in them and cut down).
I've got alpha-lipoic acid with selenium & silymarin, but I've really cut down since starting tx - I saw a poste (I'm sorry, can't find it, where someone's bloods were sprialling and they stopped taking selenium and Vit E and stablised).
I did, however, try to get my selenium up prior to tx. Now I stick to my multi-vit which is no iron and specific for liver immune assistance so has selenium in it also. The naturopath told me to cut down even with this to a quarter of my normal dose while txing.
The medical concensus is that there is no 'scientific evidence' around supplements i.e. therer have been no studies; there has been one study regarding selenium and Vit E levels in some SVR patients, which is why I tried to get mine up prior to txing.
However, selenium can be toxic, so just before everyone rushes out and buys some - check with a biochemist or naturopath. No offence Rocker, your postes have very much contributed to my knowledge and I'm really appreciative; I just get a little scared for some of the less healthy or more naieve readers who could grasp at something and do harm.
Selenium supplements come in organic and inorganic form. Organic supplements are derived from yeast, and contain selenomethionine, a form that is thought to be better absorbed by the body. Inorganic selenium supplements contain sodium selenite and sodium selenate, two forms of selenium that are not as easily absorbed by the body.
