GGT blood test report

by Christa0214, May 19, 2009 12:56PM
My husband received his blood work report back and his GGT is 299, he drinks occassionally, so what other things could be going wrong. My GGT blood work came back at 15....this is a HUGE difference.

There are many many things that can raise GGT and most of them are not serious. Many drugs such as NSAIDs, Statins, some pain killers, etc., can raise GGT.  In fact many hep docs do not even test for that enzyme because it is not specific at all. Usually when elevated GGT is the only thing in a liver panel that is elevated, it means nothing. Is your hubby overweight? That is another cause of GGT elevations. Perhaps he should be retested after staying off alcohol and any unnecessary drugs to see what happens.
