Good Wishes

Due to a bad case of ignorance, I wasn't aware of the process and so did not start tx Friday as anticipated.  Hope this post is allowed -- just want to say sorry to "Sindog" for breaking our "date" to start together and hope his first shot was uneventful and he's enjoying the beautiful weather (east coast -- a truly glorious November!).  All the best to all.

Thank you for clarifying, when I posted my response, it seemed fairly clear to me.

If I have a motive, it is that posting a lot of that stuff can help lift my/others spirits, which is really needed at times. Things and data can change, and with it, so will the analysis.

No matter how careful I have been here, or in emails, etc., communication by words only is incomplete and can lead to misunderstandings. Thank you for clarifying.

I'm glad your first shot went relatively well.  I had a sonogram yesterday.  Tech told me on the qt after I hounded him that it showed just a touch of fatty liver -- reversible.  I guess I come from some hardy stock and will probably die with this rather than of it.  I will see the dr. on Friday and decide then, based upon his opinion,  whether to tx now or wait for something better to come along.  As read in the above posts, I feel that I can afford to wait at this time.  I just really want to go back to work in any event.

Actually, I'm in New York.  The name is a combo of my two best friends -- dogs, to be exact -- both abused rescues.  What's up with your "dog"?  Stay well.

My disability is not HCV related -- although the rheumotologist feels that rheumotoid factor may be present as a result of viral infection and is aggravating the situation --   I am out due to herniated lumbar and cervical disks, a bad case of tennis elbow -- which sounds frivolous, but can be really debilitating.  All I know is that none of this stuff is being treated, and I'm anxious to get back to work.  After a checkup with my hep dr. and seeing my vl quadruple, I thought that since while I'm home anyway, I'd begin treatment.

Apart from my full-time job, I teach cooking classes for cancer prevention and survival for a non-profit organization.  Keeping your food choices low fat and unprocessed -- lots of vegetables, fill up on water with a dash of fresh lemon -- may help your stress eating weight issues.   Also -- something I got into the habit of -- breakfast.  Sliced bananas in hot oatmeal with a splash of soy milk and a healthful sweetner actually tastes like cake.  Hope this helps.

Well, TY Susan, it does take time to understand my way of writing, because I tend to shorten things(see the nicknames?) due to the fear of forgetting my train of thought or because I am hiding at work to post or simply because of laziness. I know what I want to say, I choose the words I think will be effective in conveying it and write. When I read it, it still sounds like what I wanted to say, so it stays.

With you, every time you posted the wait and watch and your regimen, I was scared that some folks who should not wait were choosing to, so I always presented an oppossing comment, I can see how that could be taken as an attack after a while. But you now word things just right that leaves no doubt as to your intentions.  And like you, I still don't agree with some of the things you say or how you say them, but you are always consistent.

Couldn't: darn it, I can see how that would look like a cheering post! But rather than reacting, could you have asked what I meant? WE do have to be thick skinned when posting in an open forum and ready for almost anything. You have to have the energy to deal with the feedbacks, that is for sure.
I have no doubt that you are well researched, inquisitive and have reasoned out your choices.  The mention of the owning the stock was to go with the fact that the released reports might be all that was accessible to you for reading, not to question your motives. I still don't think that the new drugs can be touted with fanfare as an alternate, with absolutely no ill effects and I will say so. It is not attacking your research and knowledge.
I see how you would think otherwise, though.
There are always people with positive attitudes towards the new drugs and those that tend to be on the cautious side, almost to skepticism.  We have to be ready for both.
Yes, you probably have read and research much more than me and most folks, but you know that not every one is going to agree with your conclusions here, just like not everybody in their peer community is going to agree with the researchers you are reading.  Knowledge does not make things absolute facts.
With my post, I wanted you to clarify what reports you had accessed to and your points to contradict the message written. At the same time, cheering vegas for presenting an opposing view.  That is what this forum used to present, points and counterpoints.
Your input is tremendously appreciated by all, including me. You can question my motives any time. I have been through 2 1/2 yrs of training here and been called many things, like she devil.

This is one of the longest posts I have written, unusual for me, short, to the point, easy to misinterpret is more my style.
I am glad you explained how you saw it, I just wish you would have started there.

I think you've got the wrong impression about Cuteus.  I did, too, when I first began posting here.  I was convinced that she was just out to give me a hard time about everything.  I've since come to realize that she's geniunely motivated to help folks and provide balance in the wide range of opinions that are disseminated.

I still don't agree with her on a lot of things, but I do value her participation on this board.  She's one of the good ones, and so are you.  There's room for both of you here.  And I know that you'll come to respect and like Cuteus if you just give it time.

Carefully wording your statement did not in any way alter your message as I saw it. It did provide defense for you, but the questions about my research and my motives seemed disrespectful to me.

You cheerleaded a post from a lady who obviously is not up to speed on current trials and for all I know, sounds like she is anti-stock market-or at least ignorant of its workings. Company's don't issue press releases to raise money. That comment is so far off I won't even address it.

By cheerleading, you twice applauded the post, at the beginning and end. You did that once before on a thread down below. Having said that I have NEVER questioned your motives, even though I could have-but I won't. Let me be clear here.
It was NOT THE DISSENT, it was the apparent joy as indicated by the cheerleading of the dissent. Very different.
Your "hedges" are very much what might happen in a trial, when a lawyer draws his own conclusion to plant a seed, then the judge strikes it from the record. That's nice and all, but it was still a planted seed.

I have provided detailed information to this forum on several subjects and have provided links based on my own extensive research. That much should be obvious, and therefore makes your questioning quite illogical to me.

Should I be more thick-skinned? Maybe. But I don't come in here to be aggravated either. So I choose not to.

I thank everyone else for the kind words, and I am appreciative of your thoughts.

Thanks for your pie post.  For the last 8 months or so, pre-Tx and during TX, have not had much of an appetite and weight loss continues.  Your post reminded me of the pleasures of a healhy appetite and the pleasures of satisfying it.  Look forward to that again someday.  One more thing to strive for.  Thanks for the memory.

I'm glad to hear somebody else made a cherry/peach pie and it was good, I was taking a stab at it and hoping for the best...I can proceed with confidence now! I also like apple/raspberry, apple/pear...

We have a sour cherry, apple, peach and little pear tree that is still pretty small...the cherry tree gave me enough this year for about 5 pies, so juicy too...All self fruitful trees.

Every year I start the day before Thanksgiving and make all the pies, sometimes a carrot cake too...I used to be a baker so that's my first love...I make pumpkin (real pumpkin, not canned), pecan (big fat organic pecans), sweet potato (real), cheesecake, regular apple and then a mixed fruit (apple/cranberry, apple/peach or this time cherry/peach) w/crumbs on top...yum!

Veg you can come on down for the holidays! We got it goin' on! Maybe I'll send you a pie!

Hi, well I was thinking about you Friday. Don't worry you didn't miss much on our date. I kept thinking that I was going start tx and it always ended up to be next week. When you have the meds in the fridge, then you will.

Anyway, Friday I started taking the riba then took my shot at 4pm. I drank lots of water and took Tylonal before hand. I felt fine until about 10 pm then I started shivering like crazy. Finally I fell asleep and woke up about 2am and was pretty hot. Actually, I wish I was hot, it was an ugly hot. Anyway, that was the worst of it. I was fine Sunday and went to work all day today, came home, did dishes, and started dinner for the kids. Now I gearin up for MNF.

Also, you from SF or Frisco, CO? Just ask because I am familiar with both.

you have fruit trees in NY, other than apple?  Well I'll be a thinned lip lizard, learn something new everyday!..

Send one of those pies my way...I get "cheated" out of Thanksgiving here...The Canadian Thanksgiving is when my husband goes moose hunting so we never get to celebrate it, and on the American Thanksgiving he is always away somewhere catching bad guys so I never get to celebrate it then either...I haven't had a Thanksgiving dinner for 7 years, no wonder I am so damned onery...LOL

My bf lives close to this famous farm, Briermere Farms that makes equally famous pies! People from Conneticut come in the Summer to eat their strawberry cream pie, seasonal for about three wks only. One of my favorites is their peach and cherry pie! Then it could be the peach and rasperry pie that is my favorite, or the peach cream pie...

that is a lot of pies! how long before Thanksgiving do  you bake them?

I for one look for info on the VX-950 when you post so I hope you stick around.

You know, the holidays are coming, the weather is changing, it's the beginning of a stressful next month or so with or without this disease...I got 5 pies to bake...maybe 6 for Thanksgiving...I am excited about one and I just have to tell you, it's cherries from my tree that I froze and a few peaches off my tree also frozen...mix the two and I bet you it will be fabulous!

I hope that I read it wrong but if there is a chance that you may be leaving this board I want to implore you to reconsider. You have posted valuable information here and I have come to look for your posts in an effort to stay up to date on this subject. I am SVR but very much interested in recent and ongoing developments. I think you have a lot to offer and I would hope that you stick around and do so. If you go I want to thank you for the information you've provided. Mike

WOW! I carefully worded the statement to include this "I might be wrong. let's wait and see if he comes in to clarify" trying to avoid the feel of been questioned and attacked, but i guessed it did not work well. I hope you are not having a stressed out day today and ran out of patience and energy, but if you are and did, I hope you feel better soon.
As for not posting dissenting comments on things that might be wrong or misinterpreted, I feel it is anybody's and everybody's responsibility to interject, for the benefit of those reading who are not as versed in hep c research, because no one here is an expert and knows everything.

good luck to you

I hope you weren't addressing all those comments to me. :) No reason at all to apologize for your post. I was just trying to put it in the context of a previous  discussion we had. I thought at that time you indicated that this person had a pessimistic attitude toward the new drugs and had caused some stir somewhere about it. But maybe my memory is failing me.

Hope this finds you well.

I had no problem whatsoever with what you posted, to the contrary, I like to read everything. I didn't like that it was used to take a shot at me, and that is not your fault.

Couldn't,

Your research and posts on Vertex have been very appreciated and have helped many of us get up to speed on this potentially very exciting drug.

I do hope to see you back whenever something new develops -- or for that matter for any reason -- but if not, please post over at Janis and/or Hepatitis Neighborhood so we can be updated.

It's human nature to want to defend yourself in these discussions, but sometimes I've found it's better simply state your business, be done, and let the members draw their own conclusions. I think many of the members here share at least most of your excitement and I'm one of them.

NYGirl,

How you doing? I'm not sure if my position on Vertex got translated properly. I did say "on one hand their are no guarantees" but the equally important point is that it would also be wrong not to factor drugs like Vertex into ones current treatment decisions. Personally, I am very hopeful that this new category of drugs will revolutionize Hep C therapy in the next 2-5 years.

maybe sharing info here that differs from some people's personal opinions is not welcomed...

Jim - Yes, this is the same person that said the protease inhibitors would be 7-10 years away from approval here in Canada...

CTON - your research has benefited me personally quite a bit...

Don't shoot the messenger guys, just found it interesting and thougt I would share it....my mistake, sorry...it won't happen again...I'll go back to reading in here instead of posting, sorry.......

I have read Travel and Simons medical texts on Myofascia Pain and Dysfunction. Yes, it was about 1500 pages, and I didn't understand everything, but I read it. That is an example of the kind of research I will do on a subject that is of great interest to me. Studying the drug is no different.
I think other detailed posts of mine on other topics, where I have provided bookmarked links should be an indication of the way I research.

When all is said and done I believe that Jim nailed it on the HEAD

On one hand, there are no guarantees the drug will pan out.

Seriously....it's nice to say I'll wait for a new drug if you CAN but to hold hope on one particular drug like it's the cure-all is not wise.

Other trials have been promising in the past and have gotten us nowhere....

This is sort of like arguing that the aliens that are going to come down from the sky will be friendly - or evil.  Since it hasn't happened YET there is NO way to guess ;-)

(Watched too much SciFi while in bed with sx all weekend can you just TELL?)  :)

I will sound so much like an old jerk that I really hesitate to write it but I will anyway. I have been here for 3+ years and I really wish some of you could see what things were like way back. There was rampant profanity aimed at members by members whose only complaint was a disagreement about TX related stuff. It got heated and ugly and I certainly don't yearn for a return to those days. But we were thick skinned back then, maybe because there were few alternatives, and even back then this board was the best source of info and support. Like today, there were very smart people posting and helping the less informed get up to speed. I really hope that we can disagree, maybe vehemently, and rub each other the wrong way and yet still stay around and contribute. It's really important to so many that I think each of us has a duty to hang tough and continue to help out. After all this disease is a killer and we ought to be tough enough to handle a little animosity here and there. Mike

THis forum used to have members post dissenting opinions and comments, and there used to be correction of misinformation without people feeling attacked.  This is not a uniform forum and hep c data is not "uniformly" agreed upon in the community. Having to walk on eggshells with every post makes for an unhealthy atmosphere.

I do wish people did not feel like they are being attacked every time someone dissagrees with them.  Members that have amassed a wealth of knowledge through years of research are great assets to support forums.
All some folks did, was voiced their opinions that it is too soon to judge the new meds, if that can't be done anymore without it being considered an attack...

to whom it might concern:
there ARE some behaviors that are unexplainable or maybe easily explained as immature and distasteful. making snide comments at every turn definetely qualifies.
