Good morning to all ! How is evey one feeling?

Good morning, after the crazy day we had yesterday let's get on with what's important getting to SVR.

I have a Dr. appointment today and I guess he will check my blood to see how my Thalassemia is holding up to the tx.  I hope it does not start dropping to soon, I still have 23 weeks to go.  I am lucky that I have Geno 2B, with this type of anemia I don't know how well I'll do.

To all my friends out there, have a great day!

So tell me, what is Thalasiemia?  I have heard of it before.  Is it from Hep C?  And another thing, why would a 51 year old man be so anemic (has Hep C, not treating)???????  Take Bro to Doc tomorrow to possible start Procrit to get his levels back up.  Should I suggest he be tested for this Thalasiemia?

Thanks Ya'll
Be well......Fisheress

Hey I didn't know you were a 2b I forgot! I'm a 1A and 1B does that still mean we're allowed to be pals?   ;-)

Just kidding and you know it. There is no prejudice in genotype is there?  LOL I am in a nutty mood today and just wanted to say hi. Didn't really have anything else to say.

I get them sometimes too.  I think mine are sort of stress/muscle headaches.  I take a few tylenol and lay with my neck on the heating pad and it helps me.

I too suffered from BAD headaches for many years (after I broke my back) not migraines but something even worse if you can imagine. The ONLY thing that would help me was 100 mg of Demerol and then they would also give me a shot of an antihistamine (Vistaril?) to knock me out.  I am SO GLAD that they are GONE and I worry endlessly about getting them.

These headaches are more a nuisance aren't they? While they don't compare to the BAD type...they just don't go away.

I hope that maybe my little suggestion will help you.  I know it seems as if I can get my body to RELAX somehow then they go away.  It's like an endless stress knot to me.

Lord what we go through...but it's WORTH IT ALL to get rid of this!

Chevy---That is great that you are SVR,that is great will let you know how my bloob test is.

fisheress---Thalassemia runs in families, it is also called Mediterranean anemia. Mainly found in families of Italian and Greek or any where near the mediterrean sea.  You can not get it from Tx, but being on tx in most cases  (riba) causes anemia. Your friend could have Thallassemia, there is a test for that, it think you should test.  Hope all works out.  Let us Know.

NY girl--Glad to see your in a good mood, even with different geno types we are still friends :)  Hope we all have a better day today.

Sparkie#2---That is good your drinking lots of water, it's so important.  The headache was bad for about 2 days, I promise you it will get better. Don't forget to come here for support, the people here are so helpful and they really care.  Let us know how you are doing.

Hey there- Hope you start feeling better. One thing I was given months before I started tx- A gel pack (looks like futuristic sunglasses), they told me to keep it in the fridge and if I get a bad headache lay down and put it over my eyes. Probably available at any pharmavy.Sometimes I just put it up higher on the forehead.
Another thing too is to keep track of basic things. I get very bad headaches  everytime I go without or cut down my coffee intake, just like withdrawals from the caffine according to my dr. When I sneak a lttle too much sugar also I get bad headaches the next day. Tylenol does nothing for those headdaches although it helps with my muscle aches.
It's just like the hangovers I experienced when I drank. I was told by a dr that a good portion of the hangover effect was the sugarin the alchohol and mixers.
Although of course it may not have anything to do with that-  as our body goes through all the new changes, other little things we take for granted can enhance things.
Be well,
Don

You all helped me so much yesterday!  I think it was one of my worst days ever. Every sx I have had was there at once.
I did the 3rd week of double Peg last night. I feel A TON better today.  I also added another Riba a day.  Hgb holding up, but platelets at 47. Doc put me on an antibiotic for bronchitis.  The d-mn cough is getting worse.
I am losing my drive to go on, but will try to make it until the next PCR(4 wks).
The headaches got better with time!
Good luck with blood work!
Thank you all.

The blood test you can get at your Dr.'s office.  Sparkie#2--you really should not have any thing with caffine, one Dr. said one cup is OK if I really need too.  I don't know why,  maybe some one ou there can shead some light on this.

I was having headaches in the morning, attributed it to sinuses.  I would take a washcloth and wet it and place in the microwave, then put it over my eyes and forehead.  Really worked.  And since I have placed a steam humidifer in my bedroom for my dry cough, the headaches are GONE!  Try it, can't hurt.....right?

The  Four Cats !

Four  men were bragging about how smart their cats were.

The  first man was an Engineer,

the  second man was an Accountant,

the  third man was a Chemist,,,,,,and

the  fourth man was a Government Employee.

To  show off, the Engineer called his cat,

"T-square,  do your stuff."

T-square  pranced over to the desk, took out some

paper  and pen and promptly drew a circle, a square,

and  a triangle. Everyone agreed that was pretty  smart.

But  the Accountant said his cat could do better.

He  called his cat and said,

"Spreadsheet,  do your stuff."

Spreadsheet  went out to the kitchen and returned

with  a dozen cookies. He divided them into 4 equal  piles

of  3 cookies.............Everyone agreed that was  good.

But  the Chemist said his cat could do better. He called  his

cat  and said,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"Measure, do your  stuff."

Measure  got up, walked to the fridge, took out a quart  of

milk,,  got a 10 ounce glass from the cupboard and poured

exactly  8 ounces without spilling a drop into the  glass.

Everyone  agreed that was pretty good.

Then  the three men turned to the Government  Employee

and  said, "What can your cat do?"

The  Government Employee called his cat and  said,,,,,

"CoffeeBreak,,,,do  your stuff."

CoffeeBreak  jumped to his feet,,,,,,,,,,,

ate  the cookies,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

drank  the milk,,,,,,,,,

sh*t  on the paper,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

screwed  the other three cats,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

claimed  he injured his back while doing  so,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

filed  a grievance report for unsafe working  conditions,,,

put  in for Workers Compensation...............and

went  home for the rest of the day on sick  leave.............

AND THAT'S WHY I WANT TO  WORK FOR THE GOVERNMENT.......

It's my turn to be negative today.  This word doable that we use for TX is not working for me this week.

I have to admit I'm feeling better today.  But the last 10 days have been the worst of TX so far.  If I had it to do over again I would not start TX.

I also have to say Congrats to all of you who have TX'd two three or more times.  I will not.  This is it for me.  I find out on the 16th if it's working.  Obviously if it is I will continue on, but if not I'll not go thru this again.

I guess it's doable on the good days and it's not on the bad days.

Sorry for being a gloomy gus here.  BTW it's week 13/48 and I just don't have any idea how I'm going to get thru the next 35 weeks.

What is the problems that are going on? Is there any way that you can get the doctor to help you get some relief for them?

I am going on week 16 now and finally have levelled out pretty much.  Some good days - some bad days.

I think I refer to doable more in the mental term, somedays of course are horrible and I just understand exactly what you mean.

It's not an easy thing treatment at all.  I am so sorry you are having such a rough time, I really thought at 13 you would be threw the worst of it. But the things do come and go.

As long as it's working...you keep on going no matter WHAT!

The absolute utter exhaustion the last week has gotten to me.  Last Tuesday taking a shower before work wore me out so bad I had to rest on the couch before I could finish getting dressed.

Still having to drag myself to work everyday and then doing nothing more than crawling into bed until the next morning.  Spending the last 4 days in bed has helped the exhaustion but it doesn't do anything for the mental part of this.  I don't want to be in bed.  I want to be able to load the dishwasher or cook dinner.

I'm still having a problem getting into arguments with my friends.  On Sat I had one friend tell me how great I looked.  Since I was feeling so crappy I said "it's not my face that's sick".

Today I am much less tired than I have been.  So I'm assuming I'm coming out of whatever thing I was in.

Do you have anemia? What is your hgb?

The ONLY reason that I almost quit was when I had that drop from 15 to 9 in a bit over a week. Then I fainted in the shower...couldn't get out of bed at all, was so exhausted oh my GOD I was MISERABLE.

But once they got the Epogen working in me...I recovered just fine and am so GLAD I didn't quit because it PASSED.

Has anyone explainned anything on WHY you could be feeling this bad this late? I would think there has to be SOME explanation for it that could be handled.

SO NOT FAIR!

There are a lot of nasty aspects to Tx. As suggested, have doc take a look at hgb and, if necessary, the drugs to treat it.  I was on borderline of low hgb and tired all the time.  As for the arguments with friends - during TX I sort of isolated myself from all but immediate family and turned down all social engagements to avoid questions, pity, comments but most of all to conserve any energy I could to stay focused on TX, family and work only.  It's your time to get better and recover.
Since you arrived at week 13 you have gone through diagnosis, fear, biopsy, getting ready to TX and the seroiusness of the whole thing.  13 of 48 means you are 27% done, plus all the other stuff behind you.  Looking back you've done most of hard stuff already. One week at a time - let the docs help with the SX's. Did you have a PCR yet?  Results?  I've been away for a few weeks and might not be up to date.
