I piped in for a few reasons:

1. Often when someone is promoting one of these "naturals", its as a cure, and there are no cures (Cure is a word some may argue with, but thats a different topic) outside of the meds we face here everyday.  These hucksters are the "Snake Oil Sales-scum" that try to prey on sick people.

2. We see posts about different supplements that someone is promoting the virtues of and in some cases, (not all, and I have no proof, nor am I saying its so in this case) they just so happen to sell or have interest in a company that sells the products.  My main complaint on this, is that barring any decisions on the veracity of the claims about any product, this is not supposed to be a commercial site where people post what they have for sale, it is a support site.  Sell your stuff elsewhere!

3. Each and every med you take interacts with the others, that's why they reccomend using 1 pharmacist that then knows every med you take and can figure their interactions.  Avoid grapefruit and MANY meds.  My problem with supplements, natural or not, is that will ALWAYS have some sort of interection with the meds you take.  Some will actually increase the effective dosage, some will decrease the dosage, some can have harmfull and even life threatening interactions with different meds.  On their own, some will do diddly and some will help you.  Mixed with any thing else and there are interactions.  The meds we take are prescribed on dosages for us.  If we take something that changes the dosage it may help or hurt.  If we take a med that's supposed to take 3-4 days to build and then ease out so you have a certain level at all times and something speeds up the process and you go 2 days without the med in your system we've changed how effective that med is.

I'm not smart enough to know if the changes caused are for the good or not and while we have some pretty sharp people here, I am pretty sure no one posting here is qualified, including some self proclaimed experts.

What I said was "ask your doctor" and don't take any advise you get online as gospel, from me or anyone else.  If you don't trust your doctor to give you the right advise, get a new doctor.

I also get suspicious when someone who has been around the forum a "relatively" short time starts with multiple posts on this vein.  This can happen to an old timer as well who gets caught up in the hype of a product and gets on board.

Amway, anyone?

Take whatever you want, but for heaven's sake, research and think about what you may be doing to what you are already taking!

Why were many hitting at St. George for bringing these green tea abstracts forward a few threads ago? Because they show green teas antifibrotic potential/ Or because he mixed the green tea with maitake mushrooms, claiming it can arouse the innate immune system and shift towards Th1 and suggesting this might be an interesting adjunct to IFN therapy? or because some thought this story might have a silver lining?

I take Green Tea myself - it's one of the things that I figure is great for it's anti oxidant properties and I've been taking it since I was diagnosed in my vitamin regimen. :)

If you think that was "hitting" wait until you see someone bring up the idea of having a social drink after SVR :) Lots of touchy and emotionally invested subjects here ;) BTW I had a cup of green tea tonight. I also think mixing the mushroom thing in may have lead to some not even bothering to look at the study before commenting. Look forward to your take sometime in the  future on Chinese Herbs either to help reduce inflammation and/or balance out the immune system before or after treatment.

I don't think that St. George was being attacked about green tea. I think it was the name calling that was offensive. Collidal Silver was brought up and that seems to push a lot of buttons around here, not green tea.
