Pregnancy and Hep c

Please i was wondering if someone will answer my question...i recently found out that my sister in law is pregnant ...her husband has hep c...i want to ask....what chance is there that my sister in law contracted hep c....her child will be effected by hep c if she doesnt herself carry it but her husband does does that increase the childs chances of having hep c....can she have a healthy pregnancy and God willing a healthy baby?? please could anyone answer

well - it would be a good thing to get to know more about Hep C...

Especially since your sister-in-law may have to deal with this issue in the very near future if her husband has HCV.

And your neice or nephew might need to learn a lot about it.

Thanx for the info shes my sister in law through marriage..shes my husbands sister and her husbands an idiot drinks like there is no tomorow he has no care for his life its just i heard she pregnant so i wanted to know has she a chance of a healthy baby, because i have to admit i was quiet ignorant of hep c

The chances of either your sister-in-law or the fetus contracting Hepatitis C are remote, but not impossible. We have had members here that have been infected from birth; again, possible but not likely.

In terms of percentage, IF you sister-in-law somehow contracted the virus from her husband (about 5% for monogamous, heterosexual couples), the chances of her passing it to the child (vertical transmission) occurs again in about 5%.
