HGB is hemoglobin.

HGB 12.6 12.0 16.0 G/DL

Right now it appears that you went from an original number of 16 to 12?

12 is considered "normal" for a woman (not sure about a man the number may be a tad bit higher).

Most doctors wont even consider giving you Procrit until you hit 10.  I started all the way down at 9 and it was literally HELL. I went from almost 16 to 9 in just over a week and the drastic decline literally almost caused me to stop treatment. I couldn't even stand without fainting.

I'm very surprised a doctor would bother to treat this and not treat it aggressively.  After a month on Procrit...your number is pretty much the exact zame.  That happened to me I didn't drop but I stayed at 9.  They had to up my dose to 2x a week @ 40,000 of Epogen (Procrit same stuff) in order to raise my number.

Seems to me the doc definitely needs to up yours.  There is nothing called "raising it too fast" as far as I am concerned.

Although none of us are doctors a lot of us have gone threw this!

Greetings.  I think if you read the (immense) paperwork that comes with the Procrit it says somewhere that you don't want the hgb to rise more than 2 points in a given time.  Yours has risen 2.1 (from 10.5 to 12.6) in a month.  That is good and I think the point of the Procrit is to get you into normal range. Once there they will probably want to space out the shots to find the optimum - but I don't think they will let you go up to 13 as Procrit has its own risks.

I am having a little bit of a hard time (like ny girl) reading your lab.  Where does the 10.5 figure in with the 12s and the 16?  Have you had weekly labs (once I was on Procrit I had weekly CBCs)? Was the 16 pre tx?

How are you feeling?  I am 6 weeks post tx (was on Procrit throughout) and my hgb is 12.6 and I feel okay, but wish it were higher.

Your white counts look super, by the way

I don't see the 10.5 anywhere at all

Just
HGB 12.6 12.0 16.0 G/DL

Which to me meant the most recent reading 12.6 before that 12.0 (probably a month ago with monthly readings?) and 16.0 baseline?

That means as far as I can see no 10.5?

But then like I said I don't know any doctor that would ever start a person on Procrit with a "12" ever.

Something just can't be right here.  They aren't like any labs then that I"ve ever seen in here - ----

Anybody? it ain't making much sense to me then at all....

I read that thatgirl67 started Procrit with Hgb 1.5 a month ago.  Stats seem to be a current reading with Hgb at 12.6.  This seems about right as PI for Procrit says med takes anywhere from 2-6 wks.

For me it seems to be about 3 wks before I see the results from any adjustment in med.  Initially I seen a similar 2 point increase in 3 wks from 9.8 to 11.6.  But as I increased Riba when Hgb increases were seen, it dropped back down and I had to increase Procrit again.  Each subsequent increase seemed to only produce a 1 point increase within the 3 wk time.

Latest change was to split Procrit into two doses of 50,000 U over the week to try and maintain a more consistent dose throughout the week as I was seeing flucuations of 1/2 point in Hgb within a few days when multiple labs were performed.  So far so good as it seems to have leveled off around 10 for the last couple of weeks.

Take heart and congrats thatgirl67, it looks like things are working for you in that your recent Hgb is in the normal range.

After 35 wks it seems like I can't even remember anymore what normal feels like.

The "text" says 10.5 a month ago but then if you read 3 weeks foward (and read the labs backwards to hiow I've always seen them?) then the current hgb is 16?

10.5 to 12.6 down to 12.0 then up to 16?

It just doesn't make too much sense but that might be it and would mean the current is 16?

And that IS getting HIGH and the doc would have to drop the Procrit - but from what they SAID the doc was starting it slowly - which would lead you to think they didn't escalate that much in a month?

I don't know until they post. It just doesn't make sense.

I took the lab results to be from one lab reading.  So the line which reads "HGB 12.6 12.0 16.0 G/DL " is translated to be:

Current reading: 12.6
Low range: 12.0
High range: 16.0

Sorry for so much confusion! GrandOak, you're right. The "range" is after the initial number. That's the part I guess I didn't cut and paste. Still a lot of wonderful information and I understand what you all are saying. Thank you so much for taking the time.
