Hi - I give (GAVE now) blood every 6 ish months and was clear in November but positive in June. Secondly, looking back, I did have symptoms late spring - brown urine, fatigue, swollen ankles, but never would have thought of hep c. They were short lived and not troublesome enough to see a doctor.
Both doctors - said it was acute - so that' s all I know but giving blood as often as I do is key.
how do you know you've only had it for six months? Were you tested right before that as well or were you just diagnosed six months ago?
Those numbers just dont seem right to me by what we have always been told. I would think transfusion would be much higher and sexual activity for example would be lower? Either was it's a good basic way to explain it all I guess.
Risk factors for acute infection with hepatitis C virus listed in a J.Hopkins link I frequently refer to:
---
53% -Injecting illicit drug use
25% -High risk behaiors in the past (intranasal cocaine use, tattoos, body piercing..etc)
10% -Sexual activity
7% -Unknown
3% -Blood transfusion
2% -Health Care Employment

Hi - I was also just diagnosed and have no risk factors, nor did I ever. I have had it about 6 months or less and the only thing - THE ONLY THING, is I had a tetanus shot. I have not even had much contact with people after selling my business in December - so really it has just been me, my sons when they come home from college, and my dog. my boys do not have it. I guess it is as Bill said - 10% have no known cause.
Tough to take but it is what it is eh?
Good luck to you
