72 wks + Procrit approved

Hi all

(background: G1a , now at week 39, was still pos at week 12 with <15 but UND at week 16 and 24 and been on 800mg riba since week 8 due to low Hb)

just to let you know my nurse has changed my GP's mind about my treatment and I think he gunna let me do the 72 weeks I wanted to do originally (I asked him 2 months back and he disagreed saying my week 12 result (<15) was so low it didnt warrant the extra treatment) - they also mentioned that if I DO get to do 72 weeks they will administer Procrit/Epoetin so I can stay on full doses of riba for remainder

ALSO - my ALT+AST has dropped into normal figures for first time

so im really happy today

I like your plan, and think that the 72 weeks will do the trick.  Do make full use of the Procrit (I did as well) and keep the Ribavirin as high as possible for your weight (at least close to full recommended dosing), and I will bet your odds of SVR will be extremely high!  The full dose Riba is VERY important to prevention of relapse, and with late responders the 72 weeks usually does the trick (even though you are a borderline late responder, I would not mess around, but consider yourself a 'full late' responder).  One time for tx should be the way to go, and this program will really help reduce the odds of a 'do-over', which I assume you REALLY don't want.  Best of Luck!

Good luck to you and I'm wishing all the best. I can't say I'm "glad" you get to do 72 weeks, but I am happy to hear that you and your Dr. are working together to a common goal and that your input matters. That's HUGE!!

Hang in there.........Pam
