clueless and positive for hep c..

hi. i am 26 years old and i have hep c. I was an iv drug user from october 2010 to may 29th. I found out march 7th 2011 that i was positive for hep c so i know i contracted it sometime between oct 2010 and march 2011. I have been clean from drugs and alcohol since june 2011. Ive never seen a doctor for my hep c yet because i do not have insurance but i am in the process of getting it now. my question is will it be possible to actually get rid of my hep c? ive heard stories of people being cured from hep c. and how long would i be under treatment for hep c? i heard a few months of inferion would reverse it. to me it sounds too good to be true. i thought people who contract hep c usually die in the end from liver disease sirrouis? very confused and want to know what i need to do to get in control of this so i can live a long healthy life. thank you, vanessa.

Welcome to the forum.
It's good you've stopped using drugs and alcohol. One of the worst things you can do when you have hep C is drink.

Although hep C can destroy your liver and does kill people, many people have it and never have liver problems. Usually it takes many, many years before there is significant liver damage.

Most of make a decision about when to do treatment based on the health of our liver.

Yes, there is a cure, but the current one is not easy. There are better treatment options that will be available in a few years. The treatment does not work for everyone and takes between 24-48 weeks.

What you need to do now is educate yourself about the virus, and how it is transmitted so you do not inadvertently spread it to others,

I suggest you look at this link:

Good Morning, Orphan Hawk has given you the best advice
I thought the same thing when I was diagnosed, that I would die soon.  That is not true.
Since you know when you contracted and it has not been long, you have plenty of time to digest the news and conduct research to learn all about it.

My best to you
