Just Curious about hep c

Hi I work with a person who has hep c. They say they are in remission but I have noticed little blisters on their hands that pop open and bleed. Can you contact hep c from someone who is remission? Also should they be working in the food industry with hep c. I was raised to never shun anyone and I would never hurt this person's feelings but worried about my health.

FLyn has given you excellent advice.  I would not worry about contracting HCV
It is possible that this person treated years ago, before people were told they were cured.

Like FLyn said, you either have it or you don't

I wouldn't worry about contracting hepatitis C from casual contact. Hepatitis C is blood borne so basically you would have to get their blood on an open wound of yours.

There is no remission hepatitis c is a virus. Either you have it or you do not. If they treated in the past and were able to eradicate the virus then they do not have hep C so there would be nothing to catch. If they still have the virus then the likely hood of you catching the virus is practically nonexistent just don't share finger nail clippers, tooth brushes or other items which could have their blood on them. Even in long term married couples where one has hep C and the other does not there have been extremely few examples of one spouse catching hep c. I have seen one study suggesting spouse to spouse transmission probability as low as 0.07 percent.

As to the food handler part of your question I found this on the Center for Disease Control (CDC) site

Hepatitis C and Employment
Should a person infected with the Hepatitis C virus be restricted from working in certain jobs or settings?
CDC's recommendations for prevention and control of the Hepatitis C virus infection state that people should not be excluded from work, school, play, child care, or other settings because they have Hepatitis C. There is no evidence that people can get Hepatitis C from food handlers, teachers, or other service providers without blood-to-blood contact.

Looks like a very informative site it should answer your questions.

Basically you have nothing to worry about

Good luck
