How's your mom doing ?
I've had hep-c since 1974 and 2 yrs. ago found I had the virus and cirrhosis , with a decompensated liver . I have been on one diuretic and have done pretty well the last couple of years . I assume I'll get ill someday and need a transplant but till then one needs to take care of one's self . Your mom can live a while with proper medical supervision . Good Luck !

Sorry to hear of our wife’s diagnosis. The answer to your question depends in part on how severe the cirrhosis is now. If she has compensated cirrhosis, she should probably undergo treatment for the HCV. If she has *decompensated* liver disease, she will probably require transplant at some time. Compensated cirrhosis means that the liver stills manages to perform its intended functions; it synthesizes, filters, etc. This is often graded as Child class A, B, and C, with Class A indicating compensated disease.

First and foremost, she should be seeing a doctor that is experienced in managing cirrhosis- her best bet at this time would be a hepatologist.

Continue to read and ask questions here; there are a number of cirrhotic patients in here that are managing their disease.

Good luck and welcome to the discussion group—

Bill
