alinia

has anyone's dr recommed to get on alinia and do a 72 wks of soc with alinia, if i respond to the 1st 12 wks, then go the full 72.  i have been a nonresponder x3 and now bx 3/4, as of 6-5-09. is anyone on alinia? if so please give any input. i am still deciding to do it or not. maybe wait on teleprevir, but dr says need to try, because liver could get worse in the next couple of years waiting on fda approval.  just need more info on alinia. have been reading alot but need someone who is on it to talk to. soooooo curious and confused.

thanks spoon1212

HOW EXACTLY DID YOU TAKE THE ALINIA? 1 MONTH TO SEE IF WAS RESPONDING AND THEN CONTINUE? MY DR SAID THAT HE WOULD KNOW WITHIN THE 1ST MONTH IF THE ALINIA WOULD WORK DUE TO VIRAL LOAD. DID YOU TAKE IT ONLY FOR 3 MONTHS OR WHAT?

THANK YOU FOR THE INFO. I, TOO, BELIEVE MY DIABETES WAS CAUSED BY HCV. I WAS DX IN 1996. I AM SO GLAD YOU CLEARED. THIS GIVES ME HOPE TO TRY ONCE MORE. MY MAIN CONCERN IS LOSING MY HAIR, DUE TO CO-WORKERS ASKING QUESTIONS. HOW MUCH DID YOU LOSE? SO,  THE SYMPTONS WERE NOT AS BAD W/ALINIA, WHAT SYMTOMS DID YOU NOT HAVE AS BAD? JUST ALL IN GENERAL NOT AS BAD OVERALL?
I THOUGHT I HAD MY MIND MADE UP TO NOT GO BACK ON TX, BUT NOW W/ YOUR SUCCESS STORY I MAY CHANGE MY MIND.
AGAIN, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! WHEN DO YOU GO BACK TO DR TO LABS DRAWN AGAIN TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE STILL CLEAR?

Hi, in March of this year I completed 48 weeks of SOC + Alinia.  I am geno 1a with diabetes (caused by HCV) so had less than 50% chance of clearing.  However, 3 mo post tx PCR was UND and judging by my lack of HCV symptoms I think I'm still clear.  Adding the Alinia was key for me and the side effects are minimal compared to SOC.

Hope this helps

Sorry you are having to deal with this.  Believe me, I understand.  I can't see how Alinia would help you unless it was used with peg and riba.  You are to the point of being careful not to wait too long.  Once you get cirrhosis your chances go down for getting rid of the virus.  They are saying early 2011 for Teleprevir to be approved which is the best chance coming up for geno 1 nonresponders. If you think your Hepatitis Dr. is very knowledgable, ask if he thinks you should wait for Teleprevir.  It is a very hard choice to make.
I wish you the very best.,

ev,
i AM 1A AND IN STAGE 3/4. tHE DR TOLD ME THAT IT MAY NOT WORK. HOW DID YOUR HUSBAND DO WITH ALL THE SIDE EFFECTS? I DID NOT DO SO WELL  LAST TIME BUT FINISHED ALL 48 WKS, WORKED EVERYDAY, EXCEPT DAYS OFF TO GO SEE DR.  NO ONE AT MY WORK KNEW THEN "06(WORKED AT A DR'S OFFICE), BUT NOW I WORK AT A HOSPITAL LAB( I AM A LAB TECH) AND THEY WOULD FIGURE IT OUT BECAUSE OF THE WT LOSE AND THINNING HAIR, ALL THE MOOD SWINGS, BECAUSE I AM REALLY EASY TO GET ALONG WITH. ANYWAY THANKS FOR INFO. I JUST DON'T KNOW IF I CAN GO THRU ALL THAT STUFF AGAIN FOR IT NOT TO WORK. MAYBE 4TH TIME A CHARM!!!!!!

My husband has taken it with SOC over a year.  It made him a better responder but he still never got to undetectable.  What is your genotype?  Gauf (you can read bhis journal pages) was a nonreponder and some double dosing of Peg and Alinia /Riba have worked for him this time.  He was a genotype 3.  My husband is a genotype 1B which is notoriously  difficult to cure especially because he already has cirrhosis.
I have not heard of using Alinia solo except with Genotype 4.
Best wishes,
Ev
