Interesting Harvoni/Milk Thistle Info

Hi Everyone,

I thought I would pass this piece of info on.... My Liver Center Pharmacologist recommended I suspend the Supplementation of Milk Thistle while on my 24 week course of Harvoni. He said it can interfere with the chemical actions of the Harvoni.  For whatever that's worth to anyone.....

Wishing everyone the best, and thanks so much for so many who responded and added to my "Harvoni Progress" Post...you guys are great!

Andy

I heard coffee was fine as well - just don't drink tons of it.  Also re: Milk Thistle - the pharmacy that was despensing Harvoni suggested suspending all herbal suppliments not just the St. John's Wort.  I take a multi-vitamin (Centrum 50) daily along with Lutien (for eyes - which hasn't helped, lol). They said those were ok to but should be taken at least 4 hours before or after the Harvoni.  In the past I had a gastro doctor that was fully supportive of Milk Thistle.  He'd heard good things about it and as long as it made me happy to take - keep doing it.  Enzymes have always stayed low - but of course we don't know if that was the milk thistle or just my good luck.  Current hepitologist was fine with it as well, though he said he'd not seen anything proving it was of help.  All that is a mute point though because I finally got approved for Harvoni.  Today was my 6th pill out of an 8 week course.  So far, so good.  Other than a little fatigue (but no more than normal) and maybe a brief, light head-ache the other day (again no more than normal) - I've had no problems at all.  Fingers crossed for the next 7 weeks.  Was told to make sure I had eaten a light or full meal (rather than a snack) before taking it, so perhaps that's helped as well. No food or exercise or other restrictions.  Good luck everyone!

Aloha Andy,
I just started Harvoni 4 days ago. I take Gabapentin, Tramadol and Zoloft, and I've been looking for any info about Gabapentin's impact on my treatment. My main go-to person is a pharmD. She cautioned me about Tramadol, saying it was the same as Tylenol (?) but the Gabapentin was okay. Still, I am searching for other opinions.

My hepatologist  said  milk thistle doesn't  work.   I  had  taken  it  for  much  of 10  years  until  I got  tired of it.    I'm  going to think  it  might help a healthy  liver  detox  from   paint   fumes   and  things,   but  not  help a viral  infection.   But   I  don't  really  know  for  sure.
