Juicers/Juicing and Hep C/Liver Issues

Hello and a Blessed New Year to Everyone!

For some years now I have been considering changing my eating habits for the better. Included in these thoughts has been the idea of 'juicing' (ie - taking vegetables and/or citrus and processing them through a juicing machine - which removes the bulk and separates out the juices). While I don't buy into nearly all the health claims made by those in the jucing industry, there is no denying that there are very good health benefits to be had from subtracting snacking during the day and adding somthing like juicing in it's place.

Which takes me to my concern/question. I have heard, anecdotally, that jucing can put a strain on and be very taxing to the liver, due to the high concentrations of juices. Given my Hep C, I have been cautious and stayed away from doing it so far. But, I haven't seen or found any 'hard data' one way or the other on juicing and the liver. Anyone out there have experience or know what the issues and concerns might be for someone with chronic Hep C? Thank you in advance.

PS - for fellow Tennesseans Doll Face, Tosser and TimInTenn. Where in Tennesse are you folks located? I'm in the eastern part - near the city of Oak Ridge. (Though, I must confess to being a transplant from up north - or, as one local fellow told me when I moved here, with tongue placed frimly in cheek, I am a 'Damn Yankee' - Yankee because I am from up north - 'Damn Yankee' because I moved here and didn't go back!!!)

Here's a good article comparing all the different types of juicers: http://www.discountjuicers.com/bestjuicer.html

Sorry I'm not a pc guru to give you a hyperlink but you can paste that into your search bar thingy.
I guess the omega 8002 isn't as good for carrots as I thought but I wanted it mainly for green leafies anyway and it works good enough for me on other stuff.
You would have to do armloads of carrots to have a problem. The beta carotene in carrots is not the one you have to watch out for, it's the vitamin A in pills that can give you problems.

Juicing is the kindest thing you can do for your liver.  All the nutrients, etc are readily available w/o having to break down the cellular structure to get to the goodies.  Its easy to digest and much of the waste and digestive process of the whole veggie is already broken down and eliminated.  this makes life for the liver very simple and stress free.

To get the full benefits, juice should be consumed immediately.  W/in 15min.  The 'canned' stuff is worthless-time and heat destroy all the goodies.

Strangely, lightly steamed veggies are better than raw b/c of the cellar structure breakdown again.  Sadly, nuking veggies destroy much of the c's, e,s and antidoxins.

Citus take a different juicer best-a citrus juicer.  Apples, pears are good w/carrots.  Sting starts his day w/fresh apple/carrot juice everyday.

My favorite in Maui was the 'Buggs Bunny'-carrot juice, honey, ginger blended w/ frozen yougurt.  Yum, Yum.

I've been using a juicer for about 5 years now, hasn't caused me any problems. Don't expect any miracles though, but I do think it's a better way to get your vitamins than a pill. You want to look at all the different kinds and prices before you buy one. I started with a juiceman junior and it worked just fine for carrots and beets(which are rumored to be great for the liver) and all the harder type fruits and vegetables. Recently I wanted to try spinach(for the low blood counts) and it just got slung out without getting very much juice out at all. So I got me an Omega 8002 and it works great for everything, just has more parts to clean when you're done. You can get one fairly cheap on ebay, around $200 counting the shipping, the thing weighs 20 pounds.

i been juicin for years. even grow my own wheat grass.  i dilute my juices with water so not to overload the liver.  1/2 water that is...   the omega is great for greens and wheat grass but kind of hard to push carrots, celery, and cucumber thru.   the champion is great but doesnt do wheatgrass and greens as well.  i plan to use the omega only for the greens, its pretty easy to clean. and get another juicer for other stuff.  happy juicin

I don't have any problems getting carrots to go through the omega, just push 'em in there and that auger chops 'em right up. I don't do celery, cucumber you would have to cut lengthwise to get it to fit, though. I like a spinach, carrot, apple and lime mix, the lime covers up the spinach taste.

I'm not sure about the juicing thing.  I will wait anxiously for a response also.  I did have a juice man.  I know there were a lot of different receipes that were liver friendly in fact suppose to help.

I now have a Vita Mix. I am very lazy and don't use it to its fullest.  It came with a book to help the immune system.  If I can, I'll dig it out and do some research.  In the mean time, good luck.
