Hepatitis C

If a patient's symptons were fatigue and nausea and they have Hepatitis C how would a Dr. know?  The Dr. wouldn't order a Anti-HCV right away, especially if the person wasn't at risk for Hepatitis C.  Would there be something in the CBC that might suggest for him to order that test?  Would the WBC be high?

A doctor will "usually" do a hep panel checking for any type of hepatitis, A,  B or C if LFT's are elevated. Well at least the better doctors will test for hepatitis. These up to date docs know the classic symptoms that almost every person with HCV has, fatigue & joint pain. Many times doctors let boderline high LFT's go for years without testing for hepatitis. Shame on them!

HCV testing should be part of standard blood work. A cheap antibody test would save the healthcare system BIG bucks! Finding out early would help prevent the cost of treating cirrhosis, HCC & transplants .
