It is an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor - "SSRIs are a class of antidepressant medications. They work by increasing the level of serotonin in the brain, which is believed to help to relieve the symptoms of depression" [from the Lexapro website]).
My nurse gave me some samples and a prescription (he takes it himself) but I haven't used it yet; I feel I've got enough drugs in my system as it is at week 30 and don't want to add any to the already HEADY mix.

The above url may aid you, although I would imagine you've either been there or have the same product information and are looking for those with experience on it. My nurse said it makes him jittery but I didn't ask him why he takes it etc.

Thank you very much for the websites. The second one was particularly good.
Hi, Will,
I've been on 10mg Lexapro since just before I started tx. It has kept me much more calm than I've been in years. My brother says I sound peppier and happier. I haven't noticed any bad effects.

I was on 5 mg of Lexapro for about 6 months and went up to 10mg about a month ago when tx really started getting to me (about week 36. No bad side effects here either. Just find I handle stress better and not so much makes me crazy.
anyone made that switch and noticed a difference? from what i can understand (which isnt all tht much) ou can take less lexapro and have fewer drugs in your body than taking celexa. celexa seems to be working okay...not sure i want to mess with something that is working...

I take 20mg daily and it helped me by being calmer and gave me more energy, but it could take up to 1-6 weeks to take take full effect. -- HD
