I have to tell you I am so sorry to hear your news, but what you are saying is hard to understand. None of us here are doctors and could not nor would not try to guess a person's life span with Hep C. Those life issues are best discussed with a good doctor.
I do not understand why a viral load of 18 million would stop someone from treating, there have been successful attempts at treating with viral loads much higher than your husband numbers. So forgive us for seeming unresponsive, but you are asking questions we cannot answer. And we would not try. A good doctor is what you need, write down your questions and take them with you to help you remember.
Good luck to you.

First of all, 18 million is not "extremely high", it's just not low. Many here have had viral count of 18 million or more and have treated succesfully.
Has your doctor told you why treatment won't do your husband any good? Do you know his genotype? Have you had a biopsy and been told how much liver damage you have?
As to life expectancy, there's an expression that most will die with Hepatitis C and not from it. In other words a normal life span. Of course a lot depends on your husband's individual condition.
Unfortunately Hepatitis C is a very misunderstood disease, even within the medical profession. If you aren't seeing a liver specialist (hepatologist) already, I suggest you consider seeing one. They are the ones who really understand this disease and its treatment. Hepatologists can usually be found at your larger teaching hospitals.
All the best,
