Naturally blonde and paler blonde thanks to my beautician.Bobbyullc I get that all of the time esp since I am 64.... but they do not realize that this is different and a new kind of forgetfulness. It really isn't funny because you get a little paranoid, limit your coming and going and try very hard to think straight. I give it my all at the check out.... paying, getting change ... where are the keys? Where is my car???? {I try to keep it in the same place and make it a point to double check the location before leaving it} I have a handicap sticker lifetime got it on treatment {got a lifetime one instead of paying and renewing temporary... lifetime is free here in Ct. Got it because I suffered so much and found walking any distance very difficult.... now it comes in handy for locating my car. Deductive reasoning;my car is always going to be in a handicap parking spot if there is one/if one is available. { see, the plot always thickens just to complicate matters ... if, if if } It all is not funny, but ..... Hey, in time the medical field will have learned from us and they will have discovered treatment fries the brain. Who knows what the long term side effects are on something so new??????????. 20 years ago I contacted Hep C from a blood transfusion when I had a HYSTERECTOMY now I got HERSGOTNOMEMORY both from the very same hospital LOL LOL All you can do is grin and bear it. I have enjoyed this post and thank you all. You have indeed made me feel better and I am smiling. My friends.... thank you. Lostpass {lostpass for lost password ....not because I am in the fog HA!!!!
Memory is definitely a problem. I don't know if it is the disease itself and how it effects the brain or the tx. Its not just forgetting things, but also not thinking while doing things. I opened a cabinet in my kitchen and found a tub of butter. How did I do that? I was driving to my doctors and all of a sudden it seemed I didn't recognize the street I was on. I knew it was the road the led straight to his office so in my mind I knew I would find the office, but it was so weird that for about four or five blocks I could not recognize anything. Then all of a sudden I knew where I was. Strange because I am on that road alot.
Beckyv102,,So happy to hear that your husband is SVR post 1 year! That is wonderful news! Wish you both the best
Lostpass...congratulations, very happy to hear the great news that you are SVR! Wish you the best!
My husband treated once about 5 years ago and then again last year. He is about your age and I can tell you that his memory sounds a lot like yours. I actually wrote a secret letter I was going to slip to the doctor asking them if they could check him for Alzheimers. It was getting kind or scary. He had "brain fog" before the treatment and even worse during the treatment. One time I woke to find our kitchen sponges cut into tiny squares and stuffed into little dixie cups and put into the refrigerator. He never had any memory of doing these things. I've never had a good sense of direction, but now I'm the one in the family that has to find their way around because his impeccable sense of direction just disappeared.
My husband was genotype 1a and was told he had "early cirrhosis". I'm wondering if he was suffering from encephalopathy - confusion caused by a buildup of ammonia in the brain - which can be a symptom of a bad liver. There is a blood test they can do to check for this and the treatment is simply taking a drug called lactulose.
I called the nurse and requested a blood test to check for this about 6 months after he finished treatment. We were hoping that after he finished treatment that the brain fog would just vanish and it was taking a long time. They never did give him a test for it that I know of.
Today we received the results of his 12 month post treatment PCR and we are thrilled to know that he is SVR!!! It has been such a long haul. At 6 months post he still was so tired and still feeling like he had brain fog. It was discouraging and scary - thinking that maybe it was coming back.
Today I'm happy to report that his memory, although not at 100%, continues to slowly improve.
Anyway, to get to the point, maybe you could have your doctor check your ammonia levels. I think it's a simple blood test.
thank you for all your help, i would have got back to you guys sooner but misplaced the computer, also what shade of blond do you suggest...lol thank you in some way this is cheering me up, but thanks
What were we talking about again?
LMAO!
Yeah - if you figure something out to stop memory loss - you let me know.
I feel like I'm 5 years old some times --- why? What? When? Where? How many? Huh? Why?? What? Oh did I just ask that? Oh well... Uhm... where was it again? Uh... I forgot what you just said.....

you know what really pis?ses me off? when i tell a friend and they say"well, we ARE getting older. i can not remember my phone number fron 25 years ago". not the same. not even close to the same.
It is nice to know that I am not alone. I have a terrible time with my memory and I find it upsetting as I have posted before .I am 2 months beyond my 72 weeks having been declared cured on June 19th. Things like my tel number and address... I get the road but not the number, I walked out of the grocery story and looked down and could not figure out why my groceries were not in bags... I forgot to check. out.. because I had gone to the scratch off lottery machine before paying for my groceries instead of after as I often do. I turned right around and went back into the store embarrassed as ever. One thing for sure... I will be excused from jury duty if ever called {something I personally have never wanted to do} and there has to be some other fringe benefits here. I do make lists and I take my time. It is such an effort to do things now that came easy before. I am now a DING BAT and all I can do is laugh. My husband never knows what he will be missing in his lunch box. We have had a few laughs. Try eating rice pudding without a spoon. I have a new vocabulary consisting of the following: whatchamacallit youknowwho hmmmmmm {that is not a sound but a word for me} um letmethink theotherday {you can take your pick cause I have no idea which day it was} ithink idonotknow youknowwhatimean {hopefully, cause I sure don't!} whosamagig thingamajig and the list goes on. Have fun while it lasts .... what else can you do? I ask my friends and family to remind me of days and times again AND AGAIN ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT EARLY IN THE A.M. of any dates.... gatherings, luncheons, birthday parties etc etc. This is a whole new life and I am BLONDE to boot. LOL LOL LOL
I'm a firm beliver n exercising the brain as well as thebody. I like to do crossword puzzles to stay sharp. I've also become a post-it-note queen since doing treatment.

female, Genotype 1a, Stage 3, Grade 3
Finished 48 weeks of tx on 4/13/07
Hoping for SVR in September, 2007
write notes to yourself, keep a journal, read and exercise the mind with anything that excites your synapsis(learn to spell-hah!)...i am traveling the same road -GOODLUCK!
if you find something let me know. it has been 1.5 years and i cannot remember what i ate for lunch if i did.
i seem to be having a problem with remembering new things, like if some one gives me driving directions I can't remember if they tell me to make a right or a left hand turn and have to have it repeated several times. I will ask a question and then ask the same one again not remembering that I got an answer or that i even asked it. I am 55 years old and was on treatment for 62 weeks because the treatment was stopped for a week because of a
thyroid condition and then started treatment again.
Umm, can you repeat the question??
