Sorry. Don't mean to be so blunt (running a temperature which makes me a little weird). Meant to say that it *can be* a sign.

Low platelets are a sign of cirrhosis. Are you sure you've had hep C for eight years?

Blood work can only give clues.
If your albumin, bilirubin and INR are normal it's a good sign.
Why on earth does he think it might be cirrhosis?
Have you had an abdominal ultra-sound exam?
Was it abnormal?
As JM says -how clued up is he?
Hepatologists are much more informed.
I would be amazed if a 30 year old with an eight year infection has significant liver damage.
Get a second opinion.

how much experience does your doctor have been treating hepatitis C? is he a hepatologist ( liver specialist) or just a gastroenterologist? hepatologists have vastly more experience in both diagnosing and treating liver problems. as long as you're on "hold" for three months, now might be a good time to get a second opinion if you have any doubts about how your current doctor is proceeding.

A biopsy is the most certain means of diagnosis.
You won't have cirrhosis after eight years, particularly at your age.
Platelets a bit low but not worringly so.
