HCV and Scotch Rocks

Can a person get HCV from just drinking, or can that be tested since a drinker with HCV could have got it somewhere else.

Only if the scotch is cheap and less then 12 yrs old will it give you hepatitis. All kidding aside alcohol can give you liver damage, i.e. cirrhosis but not hepatitis.

If you are a vampire and like to drink blood there is a high risk you may come down with the virus.

Don't listen to your primary doctor regarding how you became infected.  You did not contract HCV from drinking.  Alcohol can accelerate liver damage but it does NOT cause the virus.  I think perhaps your primary doc needs to attend a refresher course on HCV and how it's transmitted.

No I am not drinking and have hcv, but my GI doc says I got it from my i.v.d. and my Primary Care doc keeps saying drinking caused my hcv, I think.  Anyway with so many docs. in the picture I am just trying to figure out which ones to listen to.  Also Meki, medicmama and fretboard  I got a call from OHSU (Oregon Health Science University), the leading research hospital in the state, today and it looks like they are going to take me, so all is not lost.

No, it is a virus spread thru the blood.  You can't get it from alcohol.  Perhaps bad lifestyle choices can be made under the influence of alcohol, but the alcohol itself is not the culprit.  Mos become infected thru IVD use, transfusions, medical procedures etc.

I have read though there is a higher incidence among alcoholics.  Probably due to the fact that alcohol increases the replication and decrease your immunity therefore not allowing the body to rid itself of the disease.  I would also guess that those who are heavy drinkers may not comply with treatment or possibly drink during treatment thus reducing the effectivness.

Hope that helps.  If you have found out you have hep c and are drinking still, that is not advisable.  If you need support though, this forum is the place to be.

Good luck to you!

Pam
