7 weeks undetectable

Hello everyone,

My husband has been on Solvadi & Olissio for  8 weeks. He was undetectable at 6 weeks. No afp level at all. He is doing very well. His genome was 1. Has anyone heard this before, he has 3.5 weeks to go on meds. The dr wants him to take it for another 3 months. TheDr said it was recommended by FDA. All his readings are exceptional. Everything is below normal levels. We I have different insurance an we are worried that the new insurance won't cover the added 3 months. I told my husband he should ask to see the back  up that FDA wants him on  it longer. Something is weird here.

Do you have cirrhosis?

I asked my doctor if I could have 24 weeks of Sovaldi and Olysio just recently but have yet to hear back from her. I was only approved for 12 weeks.

85% of people in the COSMOS trial with cirrhosis reached SVR 12 with only 12 weeks of treatment but 100% of those with cirrhosis reached SVR 12 with 24 weeks.

Why we were not advised to ask for 24 weeks in the first place is beyond me.

Your husband started the S/O off label. Now Solvadi & Olysio is FDA approved with the protocol of 24 weeks for people with cirrhosis.

Being Undetected during this treatment really means nothing as it seems everyone goes Und. When you say his doctor wants to treat for what looks like a total of 24 weeks. A few questions come to mind. Is your husband a genotype 1a, is he a prior non responder to treatment, and what condition is his liver in? Has he ever had a biopsy? If he is a 1a, prior non responder to treatment then your doctor suggestions seem to be correct in my opinion.

As for your insurance coverage, if that becomes a problem then you should be able to get the meds for free direct from the drug company or other sources.

One other thing, is your husband being treated by a hepatologist? Best to you both.
