Tony My specialist said not to do the aleve or motrin and to stick with Tylenol but if I did to keep it to a minimum and that the combination of Ibuprofen and Acetominophen should be no more than 2000 mg a day Don't know why that is because all the info I ever had before was stay away from Tylenol because of liver probs and now only use it? but I listen to him. I take vicodin early in the week it has acetominophen and I only have to take 1 or 2 a day, and I try a 500 mg tylenol first to see if I can stay away from something stronger.
Maybe you ought to see what your treating Doc says about pain killers. As with about everything with this TX there are a million opinions about pain management also.
My doc said no motrin (ibuprofen) or NSAIDs (Aleve) only Tylenol and ONLY when absolutely needed (or on shot night).
Please don't mess around trying ANY MEDS unless it's just impossible to live without them. You have no idea what can mess with treatment or hurt your liver or compound things.
We have to be as alcohol and medicine free as possible - we have liver damage and it doesn't just go away.
Be careful!
my doc told me to alternate between Motrin and Tylenol. though this advice may vary on the status of your liver (I have no scarring, so maybe that's why this is OK for me). If needed, my intake was not to exceed four of either extra strength tylenol or motrin, or combo of the two. I have also tried the new fast acting tylenol which is pretty good.
I agree with NYgirl about wanting to keep as many chemicals out of my body as possible, but inevitably, I end up taking motrin on the weekends--I take tylenol for fever usually and motrin for muscle pain (hopefully I have that right, now that I say it I question myself...).

For what it's worth, I was recommended to take Tylenol PM, not to exceed 1000 mg, in evenings to help with sleep, particularily on IFN and Procrit shot nights, and because Tylenol does alleviate flu-like symptoms.
For aches, pains, and headaches during day, the minimal amount of ibuprofen was recommended because it is the easiest on the liver and heart.
That sounds real similiar to what I have been doing. I get the muscle aches first and the motrin helps that. I will try some Tylenol for later in the week. Thanks to all for the warning on bieng carefull what to take. Best wishes
I haven't been able to take NSAIDS or aspirin ever since my first treatment many years ago. It's been Tylenol and/or Ultram. I take Tylenol 500 or 1000mg at night because it helps me with pain. During the day, I try to not take anything except occasionally 25mg of Ultram. Ultram is a non-narcotic prescription pain pill that contains no Tylenol. This is off of treatment. I still have alot of muscle and bone pain even though I'm not on treatment. But, there's lot's of arthritis in my family, so that could be it, too. My Grandma had two hip replacements and my mom has had knee and hip replacement. My Dad has had surgery on his shoulder. And I had back surgery last year. So with all those things, I don't worry about the light pain meds that I take. I never drink, haven't done so in 10 years. And I don't smoke.
