Does spouse need to see a doctor before getting tested? or can she just go to a lab and get tested for HCV

OK we're having a hard time financially.  my wife and kids don't have health insurance.  I get mine from my employer without paying extra.  Can I just take my wife to a laboratory and order the hCV test for her or does she actually have to have a doctor order it?

I was charged $50.00 because I didn't have insurance and my doc just wrote the lab without seeing me, cuz she knows I dont have insurance.

I'm thinking it ties in with this post.  Kinda putting the cart before the horse considering the info is vague.

The Home Access kits can be ordered from their website. They cost about $60.00.Why does she want to be tested?

I do believe there are home HCV Rapid antibody tests in the drug stores.  Not sure about the cost but it would be far less than a lab fee.  They're supposed to be fairly accurate - no antibodies no HCV or at least within the time frame when the test was taken.

I meant positive when I HAD the kids and I did not realize the chance was only like 3% of passing it vertically.

A doctor will have to order the test but honestly the chance is so low that she has it (or your child) that it's really not necessary more than likely to even test.  Most doctors think it's a waste of time (I had to fight for it hard) because the chance of passing it is so close to zero.

I hope that puts your mind at ease but unless something came up I wouldn't worry about it (altlhough says me who did rush out and have her kids tested but I was positive when I had kids).
