Pain Meds

I am into week 19 of 48, cleared a week 4, Genotype 4, stage 2.

About week 8 I started getting very severe headaches, nothing worked. Finally at week 16 it was found that I had shingles on my face above my eye. Then last week I found out that the shingles were gone but am now diagnosed with PHN ( the shingles are gone but the pain remains). The PHN can last a long time 3 to 6 more months I

They are basically the same thing. They both contain Oxycodone. Just as Vicodon and Lortab are the same because they both contain Hydrocodone. The only difference is what is used as a base

I am one that has been hit hard by sides. I've taken time off and now work 2 days a week, I'm in week 16. I took FMLA, so look into that with your co. The FMLA time can also supplement your time to keep you full time, as well as if you have to take straight time off. It totals 12 weeks, and revolves at the first of the year.
COBRA is 2% above what the actual cost of your insurance is, not want you pay; it includes the portion your company pays. The average for a single person is around $300/mo., I've heard of some paying as low as $200/mo. It just depends on what your co. pays into the policy.   Good Luck

Hello everybody!! I'm faily new to this site, this is my 3rd time, don't really the rules and such (I did try to ask a question but it said I couldn't because it was already to the limit) but here goes anyways. I'm 1b, stage 1, grade 1. My 1st liver Dr. told me that since I'm 1b there is no use in treating it because it's the least receptive. I went w/that because he is the liver specialist, right? ha ha :). Well that was a yr ago, I finally was refered to a different Dr. and boy did he get things going real fast, a bit too fast I think. So needless to say I start tx in a week 1/2, 48 wks of giving myself shots and having to work so I don't lose my insurance. My question is, Can I work and do tx at the same time? I am terrified that I want be able to do both at the same time. I pay $14.00 a month for my insurance, I read in a earlier answer that Cobra charges 2% extra on top of the amt I've been paying. Did I read and understand that correctly? Any feedback people will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

there is no way anyone can tell you if you will be able to do tx  and work. Reactions to tx are varied and some can and others can't. It does seem as most people can carry their workload through tx, though. I know I did, and many others here. FLMA might be available for your benefit, check that out. I mostly used sick time for doctor's appts.
Some doctors think it is important to treat early while your liver is fairly healthy and others think you should wait until it starts falling apart. Ultimately it is up to you whether you want to live with HCV or without.
good luck to you

Yes, I have.  Argh!  Those smart.  I try to resist pulling out the needle and picking a new site, as it'll dull the needle and perhaps make it more painful the next go around, but I have done that before.

What I've resorted to doing -- I hope this doesn't sound weird -- is "testing" different spots with just the tip of the needle.  Not really poking it in, but sort of applying a little pressure.  There are some spots on my abdomen that are way less sensitive than other spots.  So I just sort of poke around until I find one I like, then push it in.

Finally resorted to delegating my thighs to the Pegasys shots, and reserving my abdomen for Procrit, as I have those twice a week.  Running out of spots.  May have to go up in the arms. <g>

Can't get in on a new thread.  Hope I'm not cheating and having bad forum manners :~} Is that the correct slang?

Has anyone ever hit a nerve (felt like a major bee sting) while injecting into the abdomen?  I did this and pulled the needle out.  As I had not drawn the plunger back yet, I injected using the same syringe in another site.  Also, unlike past injections, this time there was a black dime sized bruise at the injection (2nd one) site. Can anyone relate?

do what you must to relieve your pain. If it takes a narcotic, so be it. Pain is undertreated by the medical profession because of the fear DEA brings to them. If you have to take it for the rest of your life, so what? As long as there is pain, you should get treated for it. Chronic pain can bring depression and  it is exhausting to deal with it on a daily basis. Do not fear the medication.  I took hydrocodone and it looks like I did get my SVR, plus no added liver damage.

I am glad you found a physician that is not afraid to treat you.

Medical marijuana is a term used for patients who have received a medical authorization to use marijuana from their doctor.  You must live in a state (I think there are 7 states) where an initiative from the votors has approved med marijuana.  I live in Washington State where Initiative I-692 was passed in 1998.

I feel so lucky.  Also, it must your regular Doctor who you see. I am so happy that my Doctor has an open mind to it. I told her is was hard for me to ask, but came prepared with a copy of the auth. form I downloaded, a copy of the Initiative, and a report that showed that hep c was to be included in the list of ailments included in the initiative(this list includes aids, glaucoma, MS, wasting symdrome etc.)

Non medical marijuana is when the police can hassle you for having pot and confiscate your stuff etc...at the cost of many of YOUR tax dollars.

how and where do you get it, is it sold in drug stores or do you still have to rely on street peddlers?

marijuana is for those who want to use it.

medical marijuana is for those who have convinced others to want them to use it.

Now this is the crazy part-marijuanna ia illegal b/c its such a powerful drug, b/it is not federally recognized as a potentially helpful drug.  So we all agree that it is a naturally occuring drug that is so widely used @ one time or another that it is no longer a deterient to becoming an FBI agent or even president.

The only thing harmful about marijuanna is that it is illegal.  currently.  If it was legal, people would happily buy it in shops and most likely grow their own.  The gov't could tax it like tabacco and alcohol.  We could set up programs for people w/probs w/marijuana like we do for fat people, gamblers, coke heads, alcohol abusers, meth heads, sex addicts.

Now if the gov't really wanted to cut off drug profits from the bad guys, legalize marijuana and the 25%+ of the gen population who do and always will smoke can start suporting our gov't not some shadowy underworld.

Here in my state, so much pot is grown outdoors, the drug cops quit cracking down on meth labs to harvest the pot.  Pot heads are not carjacking, murdering, robbing, stealing Identities, commiting computer fraud-meth heads are.

As a voting population, it would be to everybodies benefit to legalize and tax pot and use the law resources to root out and cure the much more serious problems in our society.

I'm no expert, but I believe that medical marijuana, along with requiring a rx or at least medical justification, is grown under closely managed specifications to ensure purity and consistency of the product.  Kind of like "pharmaceutical grade cocaine" - it doesn't have the additives and impurities of street drugs.  DJ

PS - Friole - You crack me up!  "Bellbottoms are the gateway"!  You know, they're back, only now they call them "boot cut".  I love them.  With a pair of nice high-heeld boots, make your legs look real long & slim!  Guess I'd better be careful, or next thing you know I'll be crushing Riba and snorting it off the heels of my boots!

Laughing out loud right now Veggie Tales!  Just had to say so.

Hate pot - always have.  I don't need anything to help me gain weight in my life - I prefer to stay thin and that stuff...I'd be eating Rice Krispies with ketchup and a bit of orange juice on top and not even notice that was odd ;-)

However if it did help with sx and nothing else did...I would say prescribe it.  He$$ oxycontin has nothing on dope and they are prescribing that like pancakes and so many people are getting addicted.

That's what makes no sense to me at all.  If it DOES have medicinal value like morphine etc. why not prescribe it?

From what I understand, at least in my state, California, once your doctor verifies that you have a condition that allows for limited medical marijuana use, you're issued a card.  And man, let me tell you, those cards are worth their skinny little weights in gold.

I believe you just take your card to any licensed "club," and there you can purchase joints, loose herb, baked goods, et cetera.  As has been mentioned above, the difference between this stuff and the street stuff is basically a consistently higher quality and concentration of THC.

Though, I have to say, I've tried the stuff that has been purchased at a club (which insidentally comes in a prescription bottle with a prescription label affixed), and I've tried the high-quality street stuff.  It's the same.

I'm finding all the Gen-Xers in my area tend to turn their noses up at Mexican swag, which is the cheapest, lowest, easiest to find grade around here.  They provide a pretty demanding market for the higher quality stuff.

But I read somewhere around here mention that possession of marijuana is a felony.  Not so.  At least not in California.  And of course, it depends on the amount you're caught with.  But basically an ounce or less is considered for personal use.  It's not even considered a misdemeanor; it's an infraction.  This is according to a local judge who frequents our joint (pun intended).  You get busted, you get a $100 ticket.  End of story.

Anyhoo....<G>  Lively topic, eh?

I smoked pot once, when I was in College...That **** will make you bring back stuff you didn't even steal  !!!

Here, in Canada they decriminalized marijuana...It really makes a lot more work for law enforcement...But, in a country where it is still a felony, how do you go about using "medical marijuana" legally?..

If you have to take it for the rest of your life, so what?

the only reason I was bringing up to be careful is that you know one day nice dr. magoo comes in and goes ok you are getting better now adios to mr. pain pill and you are just STUCK with nothing! (that's what they did to me).  and that hurts! meanwhile you are really no better but the insurance company goes ok you've used up the benefit or whatever (cheap b*st*ards).

I totally believe in narcotics but you have to watch the management or you end up UP THE CREEK without the paddle.  Which I never understood but oh well.

Be careful omyst.  As someone who was heavily addicted to pain pills for YEARS due to breaking my back in '93 - I can tell you how really, really HARD it is to get off of them.

To this day I am on suboxone which is like methadone maintenance but you get a months supply of pills to take home.  It keeps off the w/d's but does not get you "high".

I have to stay that withdrawal to ME was even worse than tx.  I'd rather do tx forever rather than go through the pains that I had with that.  It is just that hard.

Please be careful.  We have so many dang problems already I dont want you to have to suffere more than you already are.  Just dont take them every day or every other day or something or you might be up the creek.

I hope you are ok!

question:  what's the difference between marijuana and medical marijuana?

Thanks for responding so quickly.

jmjm my pre-tx vl was 1.1 million. I did clear the morphine with my liver specialist. It does make feel better that they do give it to people with liver damage.

cougareyes thanks for the advice, I didn't think too much about addiction because my focus is on achieving SVR. I will definitely be careful.

I assume the morphine was cleared by a liver specialist?

With that assumption, you gotta do what you gotta do to stay on tx. Even if it means a slight reduction in SVR (which I really have no idea about). Keep in mind your chances of SVR will be a lot worse if have to stop tx for pain.

Morphine is metabolized in liver but it is given to people with fibrosis, even cirhossis. As a stage 2, you should be OK. I imagine you should experiement to find the lowest therapeutic dose as you may need a little less because of liver damage. You also might ask about alternate pain-killing drugs but most of the strong ones come with a price.

Don't know too much about geno 4's but your stats look great clearing at week 4. What was your pre-tx viral load?
