Pamela Anderson's statement!

Hi folks

I just wonder what you think about Pamela

Not to support Pam in any way, but I think the sentiment was that she only had 10-15 "good" years left before she started to be severely affected by the HepC.  I don't think she meant that she only had that many years to live.
The statement was taken out of context.

I wondered about Pamela's statement too..... maybe she drinks heavily.

I just read that Ken Kesey, who died 2 years ago, had hep c and liver cancer. Allen Ginsberg died from hep c probems too. David Crosby, who had liver failure brought on by hep c, (which he didn't even know he had) got a liver transplant, as did Phil Lesh.

Thank you for the encouragement. Glad your feeling better.

I thought it was kind or irresponsible, and frankly, odd.  With all of the information and resources at her disposal, she should know better.  She said herself that her liver just keeps getting "healthier and healthier". Maybe it was the mood she was in at the time - sometimes I feel that way, and others quite optimistic.  I saw that doctors really came after her after that comment saying that with current treatments, there's no reason to believe a hepatitis c patient can't live a full and long life.  Remember, isn't it something like 3% of HepC patients that actually die from the disease and it's complications?

Also, Ithink I see a common thread to all of those folks who were listed as dying from the disease...weren't they all heavy drinkers of substance abusers?  Mickey Mantle comes to mind as well...who else out there in show business is HepC +?  Oh, here's a list:  http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/special_packages/hepatitis/7190080.htm

Doesn't Kenny Rogers have it as well?

I really thought Pamela was being melodramatic. I'm not sure what her specific reasons are for not going on tx, but if you guys and I can do it, she can.  Lots of us had to work, care for children, find a way to finance it without insurance,  and continue on with our daily lifes.  It's hard to believe she can't just kick back and get on tx with her money.  Many people would give anything to be able to get treatment.  So, I think I must have judged her wrongly before. I didn't see her as a blond bimbo, but rather a very smart woman in her private life.  She isn't so smart after all. But I guess we all have our reasons for our decisions. **Hopiangel**

You know, if you get off of that Hollywood merry-go-round, even for a year, it can be tough to get back on....you know that's what she's thinking...

I dont know why she isnt on Interferon either, maybe she thought the hair loss was too much to risk?  Or being out of the spotlight a whole year, oh whaaaaaa.  I havent heard much about Naomi Judd, I think she took the Interferon didnt she?
Seems she is pretty hush hush about it, and you would think she would be one of our bigger spokespeople.  I hope Pam gets the picture soon, but in the mean time maybe it is not raging thru her body like it can after 30 yrs.  Maybe she has only had it a few years...and doesnt have symptoms.   Anyways, its a shame that kinda **** gets published and scares people who dont know any better.  That Kansas City Star article had a lot of information in it and some very controversial stuff about the government in the USA didnt send out letters alerting the citizens to the Hep C epidemic.  Well, ta ta for now.  OHC

Maybe the reason she doesn't want to do treatment is that she's worried about what it would do to her looks!  She does seem to be very interested in maintaining her profile.  I know myself that when I'm on treatment, I don't look my best, but I'm also not out there posing for Playboy!  Susan400

Hi all, you know, whatever she said in or out of interviews with the press and friends, I just wonder if she is trying to put a word in for complementry medicine and the like? I sometimes think that she is still learning about this virus and is not getting all the facts just yet? I've heard of so many people treating their hep with herbs and homeopethy (?) and are very happy with the results. Don't you think that she has a case here? Oh well, just asking lol. don't shoot me down ;)

I'm glad you brought up Naomi Judd. I was curious too and looked up some stuff, also she was just on TV last week talking about hcv. It seems (I could be full of it)she will not come out and say directly what she did for tx. It seems more like she is using hcv for a forum to tell of other things she belives in and is of no help to any of us who are truly looking for answers. Typical hollywood celebrity living in that fogland of unreality.
I'm not sorry if I offended anyone as I am sick and tired of these kind of people. It's no skin off my butt for what ever they say or do but there are a lot of people that get misled by this ****.
I'm almost out the door to see doc about AD not working and something for aches, pains and no sleep. CAN YOU TELL? :)

Although I have found nothing on PamelaAnderson.com website about HCV, NaomiJudd.com does mention her battle with it and gives some general info as well as other links and sources to go for help/support.  It's implied that Naomi Judd did the interferon monotherapy, although, it doesn't come right out and say that.  It does say she has been cleared of HCV for 7 years now; but doesn't say when that was written.

An interesting bit from today's news...

"Country singer Wynonna Judd was charged with driving under the influence early Thursday after a Nashville police officer stopped her speeding Land Rover, reports the Associated Press.

According to the arrest report, Judd, 39, allegedly was going 47 mph in a 30 mph zone, and when stopped she smelled of alcohol, had watery eyes and dilated pupils and could not recall the number of drinks she had consumed."

You would think her Momma would have taught her better.

...and about Pam...she was at one time associating herself with Lloyd Wright from the Hepatitiscfree.com fame for his magic herbal treatments, but at some time recently switched strategies to yet another guru's alternative treatment so I've read.

It is no secret that Naomi Judd did interferon.  She has never made a secret of that fact and has a page on her website devoted to HCV.

For a short about the tx she did

the first issue of Hepatitis magazine had a big article on namomi judd.  she first treated for 6 mon without success on combo/interferon      she then found another "good" doctor(Dr. Bruce Bacon, a GI and medical advisor to the American Liver Foundation. who treated her for a year and she got remission.
ive read other things that totally omit her medical treatment and say she got well by postitive attitude and New Age philosophy.
its irritating how those stars seem to use things to their career benefits. why arent facts given? instead of presenting the nuts/bolts of this illness.

I have spoke about the Pam Anderson thing last week when it was on our news, but I can tell you all after that story went on our news here in Sydney Australia, I had to spend all the next week consoling my family & friends, telling them the real facts....I even read some success stories from this forum here to my family .... The thing is "PA" refuses to go on the Interferon Riba treatment & instead chooses to be chewing milk thistle & other wish remedies, oh boy does she make me angry saying that... And she did say 5-10 years to live, that's why all the negative thoughts hit yours & my family n' friends.. its **** just spilling off like that, lots are affected by that statement she made ...</font>

Poor Poor Pammie.  Blamming Tommy lee for infecting her, her relationship with Kid Rock dissolved, her fight with KFC for rights of the chicken not going anywhere, Hollywood isn't knocking on her door for movies and now knowing that the herbs won't kill the virus, maybe she is just looking for people to feel sorry for her. ::Shrugs::

Awww crud, I just wrote a reply stating how nice Naomi's site is and how she is a do-gooder, as is Pam apparently from her website.  I apologize for not knowing their contributions to hep C awareness etc.  Thanks Galen for the links. That was helpful.

You know I love the people on this site and the spirit of all of you but I have to say a couple of things in regards to this Pamela bashing.

My father was one of the great bebop jazz drummers that played with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie etc, etc, etc. He was a heroin addict so was my mother. I was born addicted to heroin and then later became an addict. My father actually had hep a, b, and c and beat all of it within his own body, thank GOD! My father and mother both got clean and had successful carriers my dad in music and photography and my mom actually helped start the PAR (postal alcohol recovery program) program for the United States Post Office and was given a special achievement award by the Unites States Postal Service for that.

I run a successful company with anywhere from 10-40 people, I ran a successful Tae Kwon Do studio which my son runs for me since I started TX, I play drums on a professional level which I stopped for TX. I helped start N.A. in its formative years 35 years ago in L.A.

Pamela is just where a lot of us were 10, 20, and 30 years ago. She is trying whatever she is trying. I don't think any of us wanted to start this damn TX (thank GOD for it)! Hopefully she will see she needs it or who know maybe a miracle could happen I don

Also this may be her last stop and if she reads all this she may split. I don't want that. If I had not found this place I don't know whether or not I would have begun TX.

I'm w/a jazz drummer. We're 'boys-n-da-hood' meets 'northern exposures' and settled in Mayberry.  B/I'm the one w/the hep c.  Neither of us have piercings or tattoos or were slaves to the needle, altho found some romance in the pipe.

So appearences are decieving.  Its not the hard-core jazz musician from Watts w/hepc, b/the soccor mom from the 'burbs that had the dreaded hep c.

Some one posted earlier, mentioning a list of well known musicians who have had hep c and liver transplants, trying to imply the profession automatically implied drunken, drug abuse behavior as a given.  Up until recently, w/o a cure, people of means were encouraged to seek transplants.  So, more likely, a higher # of prominate people did choose that option, and we just hear about them.  B/no matter the income, all transplant patients have an unbeleivably tough system of behavior to adhere to, to get that d*** liver.  And people w/habits aren't allowed in that club.

Also, no one can realy tell the course of this disease, or someones's life expectancy.  I wasn't suppose to live 2wks after the varices hemmoraging, b/  that was 9-12-01 and this is 26mo later and I'm SVR, still classified ESLD, b/have a feeling I'm not quite finished on this plain yet.

I think that if Pam Anderson isn't going to take advantage of the excellent medical care that she can afford and KILL the virus instead of using the situation to start a huge pity party - that she should step up and help out some of those that have insurance issues so they can get the proper care and don't have to have the additional "insurance" worries.

Maybe I am ignorant - but that is what pisses me off the most about her and her stand with hepc.  Hey - why not pass on the next boob-job and give someone with insurance issues a chance at fighting the dragon and stop playing the "I got hepc from my ex-husband who doesn't have it" role.

I am sick of her.  I would rather hear that she is trying to use her notoriety to help others...what she is doing right now is not helping research.  She has HepC, she has 2 children - and she is doing nothing to help herself but put voodoo concoctions in her body.

Maybe....Pamala Anderson doesn't want to do tx because of her feelings towards animal rights??  I'm sure tx is tested on animals?  I thought I was always against animal testing, I'm a big, big animal lover, but it's easy to feel that way until something like HCV slaps you in the face!Or worse even than HCV!  I am now so relieved that there is something to help fight/cure Hep C.  Anyway, whatever Pams reasons for not doing tx, I wish her lots of luck.
