Phosphatidylserine - Memory Improving Supplement

Does anyone have any knowledge about this stuff? It is supposed to improve memory, aid brain function and sharpen mental focus. My father began using it and said it seemed to have helped with his memory. My short term memory is shot - probably due in part to Interferon and aging (44 yrs old). It says on the bottle that it is a natural substance found in brain cell membranes. I want to make sure it is liver-safe before using.

Thanks for any responses. Have a nice weekend.

I'm sorry that you've been down the infertility road, too.  It really stinks.  Sometimes I don't know which is worse -- the infertility or the HCV.  And knowing, in my case, that the latter is likely responsible for the former, is even harder to bear.

Thanks for the advice about extra B-vitamins.  I think my multi-supplement (Healthy Liver from Vitacost) has plenty, but I'll look further into this.

I also want to thank you for recommending the Acetyl L-Carnitine last month.  I was seeking relief for my brain fog, but it's really zapped my neuropathy.  I hope it's not just a temporary fix.  I go to bed each night anticipating the familar numbness and tingling in my hands and feet -- and it just doesn't happen.  It's really encouraging when you get such a positive result.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend...

I've tried exercise, good nutrition, and St Johns Wort, not only did it improve my disposition but it helped my memory significantly in less than 2 months.

I am delighted to hear that this supplement regime is giving you so much relief.   Btw, something I just came across reminded me that we should be taking extra B-complex with the ALA, because the latter uses up B's.   High dosage B-complex is good for nerves under stress, anyway, and  you've been through so terribly much of late.  In the mid-90s, I was barely out of interferon recovery when my ex's infertility forced me into a series of procedures not unlike yours....it was physically and emotionally tough, his family was utterly unsympathetic, and eventually ... well, that's not the point.  One is happier not dwelling on ex-husbands. Just wanted to say that I know you will continue to take things at your own pace.  These are huge life issues that simply can't be tackled all at once and you're handling it all with much dignity, intelligence and resolve.

See what brain fog can do?  It was Bunkywoo who asked about the other supplement -- not you!

Thanks for the link to the article, Ina.  I'm kind of surprised how effective the ALC is (perhaps in combination with the EPO and ALA) for improving my neuropathy in such a short period of time.  I'm acutally hopeful it will subside entirely.  What a relief!  The PN has been my most distressing HCV symptom.  The brain fog, on the other hand, may have more to do with perimenopause than HCV.  All my mid-40's girlfriends complain of the same symptom and they don't have HCV.

Hope you find out more about the other supplement you asked about.

I've been taking the Aceytl L-Carnitine (2 grams daily) for about a month now.  I haven't yet noticed a dramatic improvement in my brain fog (it may still be too early), but I have noticed that my peripheral neuropathy has almost disappeared.  ALC, along with Evening Primrose Oil and Alpha Lipoic Acid, is supposed to really help with the PN, and by golly -- it's working!

I mentioned....good lord I'm drawing a long blank here.....wait a minute--have to visit bathroom cabinet--Acetyl L-Carnitine,  not for memory improvement specifically, but overall brain function & stroke recovery.   I have no experience w/ phosphatidylserine.  Is it obvious?  :)
