Please guide

ZPH
Hello,

Have a good day.

I have a query regarding “Hepatitis C”. If it acts in the following manner, what are your suggestions?

Around two years back, my friend/relative gave blood and Hepatitis C diagnosed in his blood. Then he gave his blood for Hepatitis C PCR Test and this was mentioned in the test.

“Hepatitis C on the border line, check it after four months again”

As per directions second report tested and came positive.

During this two years period, he has tested LFT Six time. Out of six reports, three reports were not ok but last three reports found to be Ok.

Also this is the suggestion of few doctors, make test of LFT for two years, and if came normal then leave it. And it will cause no affect.

Please advice about its cure and guide me in detail specially keeping above pints in mind.

Looking forward for an early response from your side.

Thanks for your comments.

Lets leave the comments of few doctors which i mentioned in my first email.

I am quite impressed the way in which you help patients.

My simple query is that if hepatitis C diagnosed in some one blood. what should he make tests to diagnose the exact problem.

if u mention me number wise tests then it will be quite helpfull for me.

Sorry, you were talking about your friend, not yourself. Still, you may want to get the A and B vaccine as well, if available to you.

You may want to get another opinion. There many hepatologists in Karachi and you could start by contacting the University of Karachi.

Do you know what Genotype you have? Genotype 3 is the the most common in Pakistan.

Have you been vaccinated for Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B? If not, I believe it's very important to do that, if you have Hepatitis C.

“Hepatitis C on the border line, check it after four months again”

Sounds like your friend has a very low viral load.

"During this two years period, he has tested LFT Six time. Out of six reports, three reports were not ok but last three reports found to be Ok."

LFT's fluctuate in patients with hep C. Some patients never have elevations in LFT's. They still have the virus.

"Also this is the suggestion of few doctors, make test of LFT for two years, and if came normal then leave it. And it will cause no affect."

Following LFT's is NO way to monitor hep C. Find a doctor who knows about the disease. Look for a hepatologist and if you live in an area where there are no hepatologists, find a good gastroenterologist. While people who never have elevated LFT's often have a benign course of the disease, they can also progress to cirrhosis or have end stage liver disease.
