Possible Remissions/Cures for HepB & C

I am currently 55 and in 1970, my b/f and I both contracted Hepatitis. There was no A, B, C etc... back then, just infectious & viral. We had been IV heroin users for a few yrs. prior to our illness. I tested pos. for HCV around 1998 and the blood test showed that I also had HepB antibodies.
I recently found out that my ex-b/f initially tested pos. for both Hep B and HCV. However, he said that his MD told him that he no longer has EITHER B anitbodies or any signs of HCV in his system! This has been the case after repeated blood tests for the past 5-6 yrs.! Now this is without Interferon, Ribavirin treatment or any of that ****, which I wouldn't touch with a 50 ft. pole!
I have never heard of HepB antibodies disappearing just like that! I asked him for his medical paperwork,(which he says he has), to see if this is really true! Has anyone ever heard of this type of occurence before?

Its about the same with HepC. Somewhere around 1-2% clear during the chronic stage.
It has also occured when your immune system is fighting another Virus such as HepA or HepB. Wouldnt recommend trying this approach though as Acute Liver Failure has also occured when fighting multiple Hep Viruses.

I have read on a number of occassion where  people recovered from chronic HBV after a lenghty period of time.
It is my understanding that about 1% HBV patients do clear the virus from their system, with or wothout medication.
90% of adults clear the virus at the acute stage. So it is important to know what stage he cleared the virus.
He might have been one of the lucky 1% that do recovered at the chronic stage.
I can't comment on that of HCV. I hope some others knowledgable will help you out.

Your exbf will have antibodies to both HepB and C for life..
What he says may still be true in that he has no viral load for either B or C.
In other words his immune system cleared both viruses.
Wish mine did. Mine only cleared HepA and B. HCV decided to hang around

Hope this helps
