Pregnancy after treatment and SVR

I am just curious if anyone has any information about pregnancy post treatment. I achived an SVR and will be due for 12 months after treatment check up at the end of November. I have 2 kids and possibly (POSSIBLY!) considering another child. I am 36 already and don't have a ton of time to wait since my clock is ticking. I understand that Ribavarin causes birth defects and Interferon impairs fertility. I am curious to know whether Ribavarin can cause birth defects even after the treatment is stopped.

P.S. Hep C seems kind of unimportant after hearing what is going in Russia now. 200 kids were taken hostage by Chechens on the first day of school today - mostly first graders. I am from Russia myself and I can not stop thinking about it. Let's pray for them.

Hey Rev.....

You radiate a lot of animosity towards the US & Israel. Being a Patriotic?? American?? (lol) you still have that privilege  "to criticize". It's more than I can say for a Syrian, Libyan or Iraqi nationals or Asian, African & S. American residents, which together probably compose 75% of our globe, if not more.
Beware that you don't put your foot into your mouth so DEEP that it comes out of your behind. You criticize both the US & Israel then hide behind your constitutional rights that you enjoy. I would like to see you criticize China while being their citizen. You're using a double standard.
No country as no person is perfect, no country as no person is always innocent, that's a fact of life since people compose nations. But to totally disregard everything about a system  is sheer STUPIDITY! You should strive to improve it.....but I guess that concept is beyond your understanding & capacity.

I wish you luck....but first seek knowledge. You may surprise yourself yet!!!!

Thank you both!  I never left...been lurking quite a bit.  But sometimes a break from posting is in order when the "monkey business" gets too out of hand.  BTW, I hope both of you are doing well these days.

Showboat, I actually live about 180 miles from Cleveland.  But I do have an appointment with my GI at the Cleveland Clinic in November.   Maybe we could touch base then.

Glad to see you....hey, I think you and I live relatively close to each other......we should do lunch sometime!  I live west of Cleveland.  I was wondering how life was treating you these days.  I miss you.  Hope you stick around.

Talk about being bitten by the same bug--and in some of the same places.  Now what's that I hear about lysergic acid on the weekends?

BTW, I don't feel this is an appropriate forum for this sort of discussion.   Just going to get everyone's stress level riled up and that ain't good.   But I can be reached via Lou's Delphi website for referrals to peace organizations.

Why immediately assume I disagree with you?   You might have picked up by now that I tend to think outside of the usual X vs. Y oppositions.    There are organizations you can find on the web that support Israeli reservists who refuse to serve in the territories.   And many, many others that are trying to carve out a new politics.  They need our help.  Blessed are the peacemakers.

Thanks so much for the kind words.  Things are going fine with me.    I continue to keep up with what's happening on the board, but I had to de-lurk when I read today's heartbreaking post from Want2Live.

I'm glad to hear that you recently completed treatment.  You're in my thoughts and prayers for SVR.

Take care,
Susan

If you have been off the Riba for a year, you can go ahead and get pregnant with no fear of the defects caused by the meds.
Getting pregnant is easy if you "do it" in a Honda Civic on the side of the road. Believe me!! Go for it!!!

I am sorry that I posted my comments regarding hostage situation in Russia. This was probably inappropriate considering the fact that it's a Hep C forum. I have been in the U.S. for 14 years now but still follow everything that is going in Russia very closely and I just felt overwhelmed with emotions yesterday (and today).

Indiana - I may have to borrow your "Honda Civic" sometime in December...

I am from St. Petersburg and actually I was just there and in Moscow for vacation. I came back to the U.S. 2 days before two planes went down in Moscow.

Although this is a HCV forum we can certainly express our opinions about other facts of life be it: religion, relationships, faith, family, children, health, friends, passions...our job, house, car, etc. as long as we respect each others views. Those sensations compose the threads of LIFE plus give us a feeling that others CARE. Those emotions form a bond amongst us, no matter how brief, while undergoing this difficult time in our lives by being on PIG/RIBA Tx.
I have been a member of this forum for a year & I want to emphasize that I respect all members here & elsewhere, regardless of their sex, race or faith. We all react to pain, joy, happiness & sadness in the similar fashion, thus there is no point in inflicting more suffering than we already have to endure, by being infected with HCV & undergoing Tx.
I truly enjoyed coming here when I was on Tx & thereafter & I want to continue to do so in the future as well. I want to take this opportunity to welcome  our new member "wishhappiness." I do wish you all a SVR & virus free life.

I think it's safe to say, Rev, that war and especially a state of prolonged warfare makes everyone involved less than human.   I think the Kid made his position clear:  you either support terror--whether state terror or "private" terror--as a justified tactic to advance your political or religious cause, whatever that may be, or you don't.   Period.  This is beyond the issue of  the Lebanese debacle, and so on.  I for one am holding on to a different dream.   I'm sick of blood.
SHALOM SALAAM.

I'm fairly new to this site, and posting to message boards is a new experience also.  One of the things that I find endearing about this site is the compassion, humor and personalities of the people that post.  I feel that in time I'll get to know you guys.  I just wanted to say to you though that I'm also a member of the tribe "I've got your back".

I wasn't discussing religion just EVIL/TERROR/TORTURE performed in the name of GOD. However, I wouldn't expect you to understand these terms so let me welcome you aboard a BUS named: IGNORANCE.
BTW...I recommend that you should take a refresher course in English to improve your spelling, ideas & facts of our world.  Thank you for your misguided info & I'm pleased that you have cleared the virus.

Hi, I'm mostly a lurker but I wanted you to know that you're not alone...and I have the same questions.  I'm 30, with one child (a toddler that just tested negative, thank god), and hoping to add to our family post treatment (I'll be doing 4/24 this Friday).  My doctor's office said to wait six months post TX, though suggested I wait for a year if I was nervous about the ribavirin (I'll be waiting a year to make sure I've attained SVR).  I am a little concerned, however, how little information I seem to be able to find on post-SVR pregnancies.  One of my largest fears is that this treatment, which I'm undergoing in large part so as to feel safe adding to our family, will in some way compromise my fertility.  I'm finding that my cycle is already bizarre, and I'm merely 3 1/2 weeks in.  Very scary stuff.

The manufacturers contra-indications clearly state that the patient must be at least 6 mths post Tx prior to initiating pregnancy. Pls read Ribavirin instruction insert on Roche or Schering web sites. If the decision was my, I would consider waiting till Nov, after receiving additional results from your 12 mth follow-up check.

BTW......
Good luck & I hope that you make the right decision :>)

PS-In Israel, where I live, we're all too aware of the actions by terrorists. They don't differentiate between old & young, women & children healthy & disabled soldier or civilian.
Their only AIM is to spread HATE & DESTRUCTION & all this in the name of GOD (ALLAH)! I truly sympathize with the people of Russia & wish the wounded a speedy recovery.
