Preparing for treatment

Just an quick update on my situation first... I have HCV G1a with early stage cirrhosis, insurance denied me for Sovaldi / Olysio. I contacted the manufacturers and I am eligible for PAP (patient assistance program)and just finished filling out applications.I will be taking it to my doctors office in the morning to fill out physicians portion so I can fax it in. They said approval/denial process only takes a week and meds will be shipped within 4 days after approval ( this excited me).  I have a good feeling I will get approved but appreciate any prayers for approval.
I want to make a preparation list for treatment and would like to hear any suggestions or advise from those who have already treated.

Thanks in advance and I hope to share good news with all of you very soon! Mona

M:  Add to your list to drink losts of water - plain old H2O.  I use purified as I don't want tb to adding minerals, etc, that I don't know about.  The recommendation on the forum pretty much seems to be 1 ounce of water for every pound up weight, up to 1/2 your weight.

Get ourself some dry mouth rinse and, maybe eye drops.  Talk toour dentist - dry mouth can cause caries, so grt info brfore hand.  I got a water pik baswd on advice from someone on the forum.  I believe it is making a difference (Day 52 of Sol/ Riba.) Pat attention to what Lynn said about sun protection.

Please know that not everyone has all the symptoms, or ANY of the symptoms.  It depends on each person, your health, etc.

I will say that getting the information before hand made me feel prepared and ready (whether I was or not) and eager for tx.  As I said aboce, not the same meds but some advice has veen by people on both sets of meds.

Good luck, keep a food attitude and go for it.  You can do it!

Welcome to the world of dragon slaying!  Today was my last day on my third attempt and I'm hoping my last!  I did the Sovaldi, Interferon and Ribavirin, but I think I can still give you a couple of tips!  :)

Like others, I suggest water, water and more water!  I also stocked up every week on fruit and veges, Greek yogurt, cottage Cheese, etc.  I found it helped to have some easy, healthy food to grab for the times I was tired or not feeling great.

Once I had an undetected status at 4 weeks, I got rid of my old clippers, razors and inexpensive earrings.  I also replaced my toothbrushes almost daily! I bought some at the Dollar Store.  For me, it gave me piece of mind that I was less likely (despite the minimal odds) of reinfecting myself.

Wishing you success on your journey!  We are all in this together!

Thanks for the info on water and go figure I have a hard time drinking water, looks like I will be adding lemon juice to the list so I can drink it without choking.

Hi Lynn,
I am not sure what you mean by "a preparation list for treatment".

I am making a check list of all things to buy or to do before I start treatment including the best foods to eat, items like you mentioned to purchase and anything else that would be helpful. I forget things a lot more these days so for me it's like making a list of all things I would need for a trip. This isn't quite the same but I am excited to start I just wont be leaving my house for this trip. lol
Thanks for your input, Mona

Hi Mona
Good luck on getting approved.

I am not sure what you mean by "a preparation list for treatment".

Maybe sun protective clothing, hat, and high SPF sunscreen as there have been reports of strong reactions from sun exposure from the Olysio. That is all I have really as that was the only listed side effect I was concerned about. I had a couple of mild headachs but if that was from the medicine who knows.

Good luck again hope to hear you have the meds in hand soon
Lynn
