I just had a consult with one of the top hepc docs in the country. We talked about alot of things. He indicated with successful treatment my liver should improve and I could have as much as a 2 stage decrease. I am a stage 3. I think you are a stage 2? Unfortunately, he did tell me I should not drink regularly. If I sustain SVR, a glass of wine to celebrate a special occassion would be ok. Hepatologists differ on their opinions of alcohol comsumption. Because I'm a stage 3 with advanced fibrosis, it's better for me (in my mind) if I abstain completely and err on the side of caution. Consumption is based on body weight and I think women are told they should only have 1 glass of wine daily if drinking is permissable. I may be wrong about the amount, but many who have SVR'd enjoy an occassional toddy every now and then. I'm sure your doctor will advise you on how should approach alcohol comsumption. You will get life back, this is just a drop in the bucket in the big scheme of things even though it gets overwhelming at times. Good Luck

SVR, Stage 4, i cannot have the occassional glass of wine anymore. I feel alot better post tx than pre tx., aches and pains gone. State of my liver? Im not really sure if the cirrhosis has regressed any, but all labs are normal now, slightly low plat. ct., my liver size has returned to normal. I will always treat my liver as a stage 4. SVR now 2yrs, and very grateful to be alive. I dont think life will ever be the same for me after 96wks of SOC.
Well I have attained SVR. I feel better than I did before treatment. I guess I must have had some impact from carrying the virus that was not enough to notice, but now I feel great. Since I had minimal liver damage, stage 1, I do drink wine with dinner. That of course is controversial for some. I think if you have more liver damage you need to be careful, but an occasional glass of wine would be ok. Mentally I am happy as a bird this is behind me. Good luck. mar
