My hepatologist likes tylenol the best but
says no more than 2 grams daily (2000mg)
of tylenol but my Rheumatologist
and GP says 1 gram (1000mg) tops.
For me tylenol alone does nothing,
not nearly strong enough, I find it's better to
take a Rx pain reliever with codiene or something in it.
That way you get less tylenol and the
narcotic will ease your pain. You could take one in the am and one in the pm, (or better yet a half 3-4 times a day) it won't relieve your pain completely but it takes the edge off so you can get moving a bit.
Enigma
Everything I've read and heard suggests Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs should be avoided in people with hepatitis that tylenol at 2mg dose is prefered
People with hepatitis C are especially prone to liver damage caused by taking common pain relievers. According to a study by Dr. Thomas Riley III, head of the liver transplant program at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center of Penn State Geisinger Health Center, even low-dose ibuprofen can cause liver damage in patients with hepatitis C. (American Journal of Gastroenterology, Sept. 98 and Journal of the American Medical Association Oct. 98)
According to this study, patients with chronic hepatitis C experience a 10-fold rise in their enzymes after taking ibuprofen, suggesting significant liver injury and Hepatitis C patients risks speeding up the process of going from chronic hepatitis to cirrhosis of the liver.

I know--this is confusing to us, too. Husb. first doc said to only take 2 grams a day of Tylenol, and no Ibuprofen. His current doc says Ibuprofen in moderation is fine.
He tries to stay away from either unless absolutely necessary.
Unless you have alot of liver damage, take your pick. If you do have damage, Ibuprofen is probably the best, but limit both because any drug, OTC or otherwise, works your liver. Joni
What about just plain aspirin? I'm allergic to ibuprofen....
My only thought about asprin is the same as w/ Ibuprofen, if your platelettes are low. Both thin the blood and w/ low platelettes, that could be dangerous. Other than that, I used asprin until they dropped. Joni
I started with one dr in beginning of tx and said ibuprofen only and mid way,,,I had to change dr's for other reasons and this one says,,,Tylenol only??? I try to not take either unless absolute necessary but ibuprofen has always worked best on me so if I get a really bad headache,,,,I take that. This has been a controversy for a long time as each dr says something different and seems to be split on board about half so go figure!
