it's just my opinion, but I believe ribavirin plays a much larger role in the picture than given credit for....(as vertex, has pretty much once again proved)
Don't know your weight, but could you get into the high dosing Schering(?) trials for those above 85kg?
Funny, my Np and I go back and forth, comparing what I've read or heard and what she hears as far as tx....(never have much to discuss about my tx)...But last month she mentioned predosing riba, so it must be bouncing around the ivy league halls of medicine...;^)
Doubt it. We would probably have to get a lobbyist or something. Let's face it, those of us who don't have the luxury of waiting are probably sol. Not right.
I'm glad you have a doctor who listens. He's one in a million. Best wishes to you on your tx and losing the weight. I lost 17 lbs. on tx. Gained 3 back. I know at least 2 people who got diabetes from tx one is stage 4 and on the transplant list.
If enough of us complain to the FDA do you think we could get them to release the new meds (Telepravir) sooner? Lots of people can't wait another 5 years.
Meant to say ...All the best, and try not to hit any trees on those runs!
Not to get too "bizarre", another thing you should consider is pre-dosing with ribavirn like Flordia Guy did. Not sure how many weeks before his first peg shot he started, but you might try 3-4 weeks, with your doctor's approval of course. If you follow such a path, being on top of the anemia curve is critical and using Procrit (epo) prophalactively may have some merit. As to Alinia, I still haven't seen any SVR data on any of their trials, so certainly not discourging you, but wouldn't hang my hat, er liver, on it, at least not yet.

All the best and try not to hit any o
Thanks for the encouragement. Actually, it's about time to get active. I have a desk job plus got really flubby while on tox. Always been a bit hefty though. Anyway, ran through the woods all afternoon yesterday and did fine. JM, Thanks for the dd info. I am a bit worried that the tox coming up resembles the last tox I did. I am determined to change it up. With or without Docs approval. I am not going to do anything bizarro though! Well, I am going to try and get Alinia... I like what I've learned about it so far.
Gauf,,,Good Luck on your weight loss,,,,,That will take some time though won't it? I can't imagine losing 50 lbs in a few weeks. That is a challenge within itself and then getting ready for your tx. Please let us know how you are coming along!
Good luck on your next round and your diet. I would also ask him if he is willing to bring on the rescue drugs instead of dose reduction like some docs do.
Dominic
Good luck with treatment. I like the fact that he wants you to lose the weight first. No sense treating right away if you can get better odds of SVR by losing that weight.
As to the double-dosing, you might want to watch "Doc Eye for the Hep Guy" over at the Clinical Care Options Web Site. In that video Dr. Dieterich -- or maybe it was Dr. Jensen -- talk about double-dosing for prior non-responders and I believe they cite several studies. If you like what you see, you might want to feel him out again on the subject of double dosing, as long as he doesn't think there's much of a downside.
All the best with your upcoming treatment.

about the alinia, during the several trials they've done/are doing, it looks to me as though the protocol in which it works best is where it is used as an adjunct to the regular combo therapy. The good thing about alinia is that it IS on the market, even though it's a prescription not currently ok'd for this particular application. Still it's a medication that exists. Good luck with your diet Gauf!
Almost forgot, Dr. Zein said that Teleprevir realistically will not be ready to go for another 5 years due to new FDA protocals. I hope he is wrong.
CockSparrow is on top of steatosis I think. But he is out in the desert in Australia at present. Ask him when he returns, in two weeks or so.
I am pretty motivated, we'll see. I am thinking the doc may suspect fatty liver disease because this insulin reversal topic was discussed in the crossfire debate. Not sure how they determine steatosis. More questions.....
I googled Alinia, it is prescription only. Don't know anything about it nor about insulin reversal.
Do you think you can lose those pounds? I hope you can. But whether you do or not, be sure to get that tx with weight based riba and 48 weeks, even if it means you have to look for a third doctor. I do like that this doc listened to you, they are not that easy to find. I hope he will stand by you and make sure you get the optimal tx regime available.
good luck on your tx. did i hear right that you have to put off starting for a "few weeks". can you lose 50 lbs in a few weeks? please let me know the secret :-)
Just the usual sides. Anemia and high wbc. What do you know about the insulin reversal? I know it supposedly helps with steatosis, but I have not been diagnosed with that. Also, What is Alinia and how can I get some? Sounds like something I should explore now that I have a little time. Thanks You zazza
You doing good, man! I am so happy for you you got a doc who listens to you concerning upping riba and extending. Quite a lot of weight he wants you to lose though, you really must be motivated to accomplish that.
Considering you are a stage 4 cirrhosis, I must say I am surprised that your old doc did not want to put in all the heavy artillery. I think it is becoming more and more accepted today that geno 3 relapsers need weight based riba and 48 weeks. Did you have any other health issues caused by your prior tx's? I seem to remember something.
You keep us informed, you hear. We are rooting for you. Third time is the charm.
Good look. You can do this. If you can do treatment you can do this!
