Skin color changes

Lately I have noticed how my skin changes color. I know that prolly sounds crazy, except my employees noticed it the other day. One employee looked at me and said "deb, your face looks yellow, go sit down, I will finish up here" Now the yellow went away, but lately I have been getting lots of remarks about my skin tone. It seems to be like a pendulum, even hubby said to me yesterday, "at least your skin is starting to look like its normal color again". I know I go back and forth feeling weak and dizzy, then I will get a burst of energy, then I am down again,.but I guess I was surprised to hear from so many that my skin color seems to be changing along with these "moments" you guys ever experience that? Its very weird i think.

i completely agree with mike and the others who are saying "YELLOW" COULD BE SERIOUS... please call your hepatologist and run this by him. he will probably run some blood work on you to make sure it isn't jaundice. the "white" coloration or pasty look comes from the anemia but yellow is a different story...like mike said it comes from high billirubin...which acumulates in the skin and eyes from the liver not filtering out the toxins correctly...more info on jaundice here...

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003243.htm

i have read that in a "few" people the tx actually can harm the liver. this is usually in association with sever liver damage...what was your stage and grade before tx??? then you also have to consider any other meds etc that you're on (like too much tylanol, etc...) that could be harming your liver. there are other things that can cause a sudden hit on your liver too (like hep a or b, high iron, etc...) so please consider getting this checked out to be sure...

it's always better to be safe than sorry...i pray it turns out to be nothing for you lilmom...

The best thing I did was listen (for once) to my doctor and start the ADs a month before I started tx. I have found that quite literally they have been a lifesaver.

I decided I didn't really need them and just stopped taking them one day and SNAPPED I was just insane - so I started taking them and in between ALL of the garbage at home and work etc etc I have maintainned some sort of pretty even keel.

I love them and NEVER want to stop - I think honestly I've probably needed them FOREVER.

(Just like avoiding mirrors does hahahahahah)

Just read your post to me yesterday. Yeah, I think we all go through the squirrely, insecure stage with tx. After all, look at the god forsaken poisions we are putting in our bodies. And then there is the depression setting in; makes it even worst. You start to feel isolated. I swear, I did not think things would get better; and thought about quitting if I did not have UND. But, things did get better and I am glad I hung in there. I have had the AD's in my system for 7 days now, and I can say that I don't feel angry at the world anymore. I also take 2 Ativan a day. One in the morning and one in the late afternoon, makes a world of difference.

Have you looked at wigs lately. Let me know how that goes. Look at the thread skin color changes and toward the bottom can do man made a comment (TOO FUNNY). I also responded back to him. LOL

Fishdoc,
Yeah, mine is at the receding line also. Just going to take it day for day. I have purchased a few caps and all the spring hats are out, thought I would get a few of those before stock is gone.

Can do man,

Now, would that be the wildest day any of us would ever have on tx or what. I could just picture it now. But, I would have to admit that it would be the funniest day I ever spent on tx, undoubtly.

WHAT DO YOU THINK GIRLS, SHOULD WE LET CAN DO MAN AND GOOF HELP!!

Not so bad here... Just what section of the rental store are you in?

Yea, it is generally seen in the eyes too but I believe I have seen people with yellow and really didn't notice any sclerae discoloration. I have heard that with hemolytic anemia from TX the RBCs can get destroyed so quickly that the bilirubin released gets into the blood stream and can result in jaundice. So in that situation though it's liver related it doesn't signify a "liver" problem so to speak. Still, when I see a yellow person I think they have a problem. Mike

I can most definently get by w/a ball cap in my line of work but I have not been to work soooooo I just stay home and NOT comb my hair!, I just pull the loose stuff out on the patio in the morns. Oh I do comb my hair but only when I wash it and w/a wide tooth comb, only blow dry and style if going out in public where folks know me. Speaking of which, when we go to our favorite bar (I like to play pool these days for entertainment), think a O'Douls is out of the question just to be socialable? I so miss that evening beer w/Rog especially when we get home from work, we get in the pool, lay over a float, have our few beers and do our catching up talk for the day. Oh gosh I am going to miss that this summer!

nygirl, the same person whom sent you the Nixon, I had sent a pic of myself and Rog from Christmas 2004 just to show how GREAT my hair was THEN. I was so jealous of my sissy's hair when she got here last night!

Cheers to ya w/a virtual BUD LITE!

For those conerned about jaundice, I think the whites of the eyes is where you will see it first. Mike, please set me straight if I'm wrong on this.

Fishdocsays: my chest (you know the area that would have cleavage if my cleavage hadn't migrated to my belly button) seems to be taking the brunt of the sun issue, stings and itches if I expose to the sun

Not to worry. By summer the hair in that area should thicken to provide a nice jungle-like skin protecting canopy.

yup mine is in the front, receding hairline style. no wig for me, pit hair combover... come on, be a trend setter...actually, I can probably get by with a ball cap in my line of work, and no one will think anything of it...

When I found out we were going to be loosing our hair. I freaked, did not like that idea at all. But, I caved in and early on went to get it cut short and put it back to my natural color brown. My hair being long and would cause attention to the cut; I did it before the hair loss and now the attention is off my hair cut and my hair can fall for awhile in peace.

I just took shot 14/48 on Friday; about 2-3 weeks ago, I started finding my hair everywhere. I am like a shedding cat. LOL If, I lift the hair in certain places you can start to see the balding area. It seams to be thinning in the front and side area first.

Nygirl has the right idea; get a wig. Have you found any you like yet nygirl. Keep us informed on the details of that wig purchase. Just think we get to pick and choose from alot of styles and colors.

I posted this on 3.31 "Azgirl, shot 8, and I am starting to lose hair. Even worse, pit hair, leg hair, seems to be growing like weeds. I turned 50, I'm going retro. see how long it gets... whole new type of combover....I spent the week in a motel, and please G. let it be the lighting, but I am like yellowish green? I know I'm from southern new mexico, near the big crash site, but jeesh... mottley ugly, reddish blotches, straight from the x-files. Thank god I don't feel as bad as I look."

I learned about Nioxin prior to tx. and began using it. Too soon to tell if it works tho.

I think I might have discovered the Perfect Lotion tho:

ArmorAll: says right on the bottle "prevents fading and discoloration, prevents cracking, and slows down the age-process.
So there you have it, I need to switch over to the same stuff I give my truck!!!!!!
My skin feels just like the interior of a vehicle, thats no lie!!

I used the Nioxin that someone in here sent to me :) but my hair was already so bad it couldn't help it. There was nothing left to help maintain. I wish I had known about it before hand but honestly...I'm sort of loooking forward to chopping it all off and getting a nice wig. Why that will save me so MUCH TIME in the morning that I can sleep late instead of wash, condition, towel dry, style, blowout, spritz, flatten, curl, crimp, polish and lusterize! I can probably get up ten minutes before I'm supposed to leave now LOL.

Pale, red, ashen - I had all these colors. But yellow or brown isn't a good color when we're talking liver disease. I was surprised that no one thought much about it until your post. Maybe we're just alarmists - you and I - but I've seen a lot of yellow people at my transplant clinic. Mike

On skin color - As Mike said, yellow would concern me. Other than that, I remember on my 16 week visit, my Dr said, "Well you look alot better. Your color has improved, you were looking pretty bad the last time you were in" (8 week visit). Gee, they never tell you you look like sh!t when you do, they wait 'till you're better.

On hair loss - I ran into some physician guidelines published by my tx clinic a from 2-3 years ago. There they advised Nioxin to prevent hair loss - but emphasised it should be started BEFORE tx. Dunno why.

My hair has thinned. Off tx for 3 weeks, and the last couple days I've noticed increased scalp sensitivity in the shower. I hope that's not a sign of impending shedding.

LOL toof'less bubba's oh lord is this what we've fallen to????????? hahahahahaha. oh my GOD hahahahahahahaa

I think we need a few virtual beers is the truth - since we can't have any in real life let's chug them on here. I'm starting to realllly need one thinking about those bubbas....oh my GOD.

I could just see us all hanging out in one place with the big toof'less bubbas howling at us - oh my GOD it's worse than the nightmare I had about Flavor Flav last night after seeing that show for five minutes it tormented me in to my dreams. I'm worried about the bubbas now! Gosh it used to be only vampires and such ;-)

My hair is probably the only thing I am worried about. I'm so glad you guys talk about that. How long before you started showing signs of hair loss or dryness? I am constantly checking my hair....and I am not a mirror person I don't wear makeup and my hair is wash and wear style...but it's very long and curly and I sooooo don't want to lose any.

I think I am turning into a vain person from this....must stop obsessing...must stop obsessing....must stop obsessing. hahaha

the other thing is I realize we are sensitive to the sun but bathing suit season is still upon us and the time will call to put them on....how long do the injections sites remain so ugly? I mean am I just going to be a beat up, hairless, whiteass girl or what? Do those marks go away in like a week or can you see them all the time......geez...just one just shot and I'm already complaining....I better go run and get over it...
This forum is great by the way!!!!
