Antidepressants and TX

At my last visit to my hep c dr when we were talking about gettings going for me he asked me about the medications that I was taking.I told him and when I said Lexapro(ad) he said that would have to be changed.What would be the reason for this?I know there are different classifications for them(SSRI's etc)Do some interact differently ??? cindy

Hi there.  My doc said some ADs are okay but some were not ideal for a person with Hep C.  I looked up Lexapro online and found this for you:

Patients who suffer from depression and other mood disorders are often prescribed medications from the drug class known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs. Lexapro is an SSRI that is commonly prescribed for depression and other mental health disorders. Unfortunately, the use of Lexapro has the potential to cause injury to the liver resulting in hepatitis and elevated liver enzymes.
