wow.. i have chills and extreme fatigue and use heating pads and ice packs and i am not on treatment yet!
so when i start well.. i'll be used to it!
just think how good you will feel when you clear this thing! you can do it..!
I am half way thru my injections (6 of 12), and I will tell you each shot has been the same. I feel really crummy within half an hour, my husband says I turn white as a ghost. Have to go to bed within an hour. Crawl under my electric blanket, also in SoCal. Injection site gets burny and welty within an hour or so for a short time, but I use Calendula cream on it, and it seems to calm the area down. My nurse told me to take 2 Motrins an hour before, and 1 extra strength Tylenol half an hour after (I know other people on this forum disagree with these instructions, it depends on the state of your liver), but it works for me. I lay low the day after, watching movies, and generally feel better by the middle of the day after. It is short term, don't worry, it is not forever.
Everyone is different so it is difficult to predict how you will feel each time you do your injection. However, there are a few things you can do that may help.
I would suggest taking your injection in the evening, maybe 8 pm or so. That way you can go to bed shortly after taking your injection and hopefully be asleep when the worst of the side effects hit.
Another suggestion would be to take a couple of 325 mg tabs of Tylenol when you take the injection. If you take the larger strength tab then take only one of them. Also, check with your doctor about any meds you want to take. I took 2 tabs about the same time as my injection (which I did about 8 pm) and then I took 1 tab of Tylenol the following am. This worked well for me.
If you do the injection in the eve and then go to bed soon afterwards, take a cold pack to bed with you. I used the cold packs that came shipped with the Interferon. You can put them in the refrigerator and then take one to bed with you. If you get a headache during the night then you will already have the cold pack in bed with you. I used to sleep with the cold pack propped against my forehead. The cold pack and the Tylenol took care of my headaches.
If the nausea persists and/or is a problem, ask your doctor for a prescription for Zofran. Zofran works wonders for nausea. I took 8 mg every 8 hours for nausea. It worked very well.
I never had the shaking although some others did. It is possible that, if you can get the other side effects under control, the shaking will stop too.
I hope you can get some relief and some rest.
The first was rough and I would say they get a little easier however over a 48 wk course I had a few that just put me down for a couple of days, hopefully with a 12 wk course there wont be to many
