Just wanted to say hello...Thank you again for the information..They were only interested in 18 and older, so Amanda did not qualify for this study..Can you tell me your dosages you are taking of Gamma, Pegasys and riba...if you don't mind...I am considering this as Amanda's next option of treatment..off label.  Right now she is taking a rest..She stopped all her meds 10 days ago.  The doctors are talking about getting her on a transplant list..."just in case"  That was the last thing I wanted to hear...They had always said her liver was still funcioning normal at this point.  I really don't want to subject her to that and would like to try and reverse this damage in time...If we do have to go that route, than we would like to try living donor...I hear the success rate is much better...Good luck to you and keep us posted...
Thank you for all your kindness,
Jodi

Hi Miles,

Read your post above and wanted to let you know that I am participating in a tx Clinical Study that combines Actimmune (Interferon Gamma-1b) and Riba with either Pegasys (Interferon alfa-2a) or Infergen (Interferon alfacon-1).  48 week program.  I was an incomplete responder on previous tx with Peg/Riba combo for 8 months.  1a, quant 500,000 iu/ml, grade 1 stage 3/4.  I have just started and will keep everyone updated on my progress and sides.

I hope everyone is as well as can be and wish you the best,
Steve

It appears from the testimonials on Lloyd's site that he is the only person to ever clear the virus using his alleged protocol.  There is NOT ONE other report of clearence.  Some of the testimonials report modest viral fluctuations but nary  a person has cleared.  This is nothing more than an attempt to drum up business and Mako is likely a troll for Lloyd and his affiliates.  We see this all the time on HCV lists as the snake oil salesman crawl out from under their rocks to take advantage of the desperate......scum is a adjective that comes immediately to mind.

Well, this is definitely what I would call a commercial site with a slant toward unproven homeopathic remedies.  Of course, one of the biggest sellers is thymus extract.  I've been seeing this stuff ever since the advent of synthetic thymosin or thymalfasin.  Thymalfasin is real medicine, currently in Phase III FDA trials.  I don't know of any FDA trials involving thymus extract.  The real thymalfasin is sold under the trade-name, Zadaxin.  It's expensive, so the homeopathic people have given us a product that sounds similar, but it basically goes in one end of your body and out the other.

Thymalfasin is like insulin - it must be injected.  In you swallow insulin, your stomach enzymes destroy it.  Same with thymus extract, and I definitely wouldn't suggest giving yourself a shot of thymus extract.

The truth is, we are still in the "age of interferon" and will be for quite some time.  The best hope we all have is for doctors to find a way to make better use of the medicines that we already have, right now.

In my opinion, one of the most promising strategies out there is combining Actimmune (IFN gamma) with alfa.  InterMune reports "a hundred-fold increase in effectiveness over either interferon alone."  They also hope this will mean much smaller doses for shorter durations, which may mean that more people will be able to tolerate and succeed on IFN therapy.

There is another new IFN out there called Albuferon.  It's still in trials, but the company uses albumin instead of PEG (polyethelyne glycol) to make the IFN molecule heavier.  From what I've read so far, Albuferon is well over 100 kD, and they have yet to find a tolerability ceiling, even at doses above 400 micrograms.  Since albumin has the longest half-life of any protein in your body, clinicians are working toward once-a-month dosing with a marked decrease in side effects (it seems there is a correlation between heavier molecules and side effects).

The heavier molecule also allows Albuferon to cross the blood/brain barrier, as with the pegylated interferons.  This is known to help reduce CNS side effects.

There are already some doctors promoting the alfa/gamma combination.  If you're a nonresponder considering treatment, you may want to ask your doctor about this.  It hasn't hit mainstream agressive care yet, but there are enough prominent physicians working with alfa/gamma to make it worth mentioning.

I first read your hep c site about 9 months ago, right when I was starting tx. Sat down and read the whole thing in one go it was so good. I swear I laughed till I was crying, I especially liked the part about Mr. Flaming Testicles, having had some experience in that area myself. Thanks for a great laugh and a bunch of good info,      Timbo

I'm sorry, but I don't believe in Loydd Wright's take of Hep C. I trust my liver doc and will until the end. Milk Thistle yeah maybe.....but I'm sorry I think It takes alot more than herbs to kill the "DRAGON". Just my oppion. BTW I'm 10 day done w/ 48 wks of combo w/ high viral load and geno 1A. I have responded since the firstblood test and my doc says I look good for a complete "cure". BTW do they treat terminal patients w/ herbs? I really don't know. Best Wishes Prayers are w/ you.~Cindee~

Hey Ken,

Nice to seeya.  I haven't made the rounds in a long time, due to giving up a pint of blood every week since August for iron overload.  It's pretty tough running a quart low all the time.  While you're here - did you get my update email?  I think I'm having a problem with my mail server.  Thanks for the unsolicited url.  It's more easily pastable as:

; )  You're a pal, Ken.

Hello, Miles, Galen turned me on to your site a while back... and it has been fun reading it.  Only wish you'd get to a happy ending soon, and then just keep writing about life. I love your illustrations.
Are the leech treatments working for you?  I might be heading that way.  Can I do it myself?  I'm having the HHT or whatever test today; am anemic, full of Epoetin and G-CSF; lots of ferritin and barely-ok circ. Fe. I try to stay away from magnets.
Best wishes,
Maj Neni

So what's next? A billboard in front of my house? If you'd posted once with a measure of humility I might have actually checked out the site. I don't suppose you've ever worked for Sprint or AT+T?
