IL 28-B Genotype test

In preparation to commence treatment in Jan ( Victrellis )  will be taking this test. Supposedly an accurate predictor of response. Although I touch base with the Forum a couple of times a week I have never seen a post regarding this test. If redundant I apologize. if not I was wondering if anyone has had it and their impressions.

Excerpt from link
"The availability of IL28B genotype testing to help predict SVR coincides with another major advance in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C, the introduction of direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) that specifically target enzymes critical to HCV replication. Among Japanese patients who received telaprevir + peginterferon + ribavirin, Akuta and colleagues reported an SVR rate of 83% for subjects carrying rs12979860 C/C as compared with 32% among subjects who carried a T allele.11 If confirmed in other populations, these data suggest that carriers of the less favorable IL28B genotypes will be less likely to respond to triple therapy that includes protease inhibitors and raise the possibility that IL28B genotype-based models may be useful for predicting the likelihood of SVR in response to treatment with peginterferon + ribavirin + protease inhibitors.

Yes test being done at St Luc Hosp. Not available at the Royal Victoria.  Nurse clinician told me that if you are CC like winning the Loto.... "SVR rate of  83% for subjects carrying rs12979860 C/C "  "as compared with 32% among subjects who carried a T allele."
Two weeks to get results. Test tomorrow. We'll see. Thanks to all for response.

It has nothing to do with genotype 2B. It's the best pre-tx predictor (along with your viral genotype) of response. After tx begins, your viral load ay week 4 (UND or notUND) becomes a better predictor.

Hi Don..Good to see you and glad to hear you are getting things underway in the new year. There has been many threads pertaining to the IL28B gene test over the months..possibly you have missed them.

In the Vic " Sprint" trial (for tx. naives) there was a sub study done .looking  at success, given the different allele's.

Go to this site ..it is very  credible  and the slide "IL28B geno type Predicts likelihood of achieving SVR"  and have a look. You will have to register for the site,if you haven"t already, however it is free and well worth looking over for reference.

Also..I had this test as part of my study ,however from what I understand it is not avail. here  (in Ont. ). Possibly a lab is doing it in Quebec?
Best...
Will

Is an IL 28-B a further break down of genotype 2B?

I don't know anything about the test, but best of luck to you!
