NO QUESTION - JUST A 'GOOD BYE' ...

Well ... I gave it a GREAT fight!!  I started the Interferon treatment on Good Friday 3/29; within a couple of weeks I started to 'swell up' and get actual 'craters' that started from rashes.  Well ... by 4/12 & 4/14, I was in urgent care with a BAD CASE OF EDEMA that I was hospitalized by 4/16 thru 4/23 and almost 'met my maker!'  The infection ran so rampade(?) in my body that even the doctors didn't know what was going on - spiking fevers, my weight went from 125 to 150.

But what I found is that a small percentage of us who try the Incivek (bad boy, I call it ...) wind up having the reverse happen.  Rather than it 'helping' the liver, it went in there and ATE IT UP!  I started out with a bit of sclerosis and now have full-blown sclerosis.

But I'm alive!!!  And my edema has gone down (that was so painful to deal with all of the scarring on the tops of my feet ... like I had softballs between my ankle bones and just not being able to move.  I don't wish that on anybody!

So ... thanks for all of your support and advice when I needed it and I'll check in once in a while.

Good news for me, I guess, is that in 2-5 years, I can be put on a transplant list.  I will keep you all cloes to my heart and in my prayers.  KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT AND KNOCK OUT HEPC!!!!

Hi, I am so very sorry for your horrible reaction.  I am glad you came back to let everyone know what happened.  I often think about people that I have not seen post in a while.  I am glad you survived the reaction and hope you can take the time to rest and heal after your ordeal.
I hope you will stay around, let us know how you are doing.
All my best

Just wishing you the best in the near future.  Hopefully, as the others have said, the new drugs will be the perfect cocktail without the horrific reactions like you had.  Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing!

Wow, what a horrible reaction, and so abrupt too. I'm so sorry you had to go through that, but very glad you survived it! Yikes, that's a scary story! I'm going to hope that some of the new drugs will work without triggering a reaction like that and you will never needs transplant. People can live a long time just fine with compensated cirrhosis (I've had it for 9 years), and then if the HCV can be wiped out the liver will slowly start to get a little bit better. I reached SVR and my doctor says my liver will slowly "remodel" itself, but I've already gained a lot in terms of greatly reduced risk of HCC and ESLD. I hope the new drugs can safely so that for you. Best wishes!

My wife became violently ill 2 weeks into her treatment. She had severe vertigo which rendered unable to walk. She was puking constantly, unable to even keep down her Riba & Incivek. I got her a Rx for ondensatron & this was of no use, shee wasn't even able to hold that down. She ended up in hospital on an IV of saline and ondensatron. This fixed her up somewhat but needless to say Tx was over for her. Now she's waiting for the new no Interferon Tx to come out. I guess there's some coming soon for type 2s but not too soon fot type 1s. Good luck. I know the waiting game is a real drag.

I am very sorry to hear that treatment did not work for you and that you became so sick on treatment. Severe complications can occur in a very small percentage of people who treat. I am glad that you have improved and  are now home. There are trials going on with new drugs and there will be new drugs out in the future for people who have treated and could not take the current drugs. Hopefully this will be in a few years and you will be able to treat with some of the new drugs when they are approved.

Best of luck to you and please do stay in touch.
