WBC, Neutrophils too high

I am being treated w/the typical combo for geno 1 & have completed 20 wks of 48.   I was instructed about a month ago to start using 1 neupogen 300 mcg vial every other week for low WBC/neutrophils.   Blood work from Friday 9/10/04 shows WBC at 12.8 (high) and neutrophils at 81.7 % (high) and 10.4 10e9/L (high).   I'm assuming that I'll be contacted later this week and directed to reduce or eliminate the neupogen.....but in the meantime, I'm wondering if anyone else has seen such a drastic change after using neupogen -- i appear to have overshot the mark substantially and hope my body will get back into balance.   Is there any harm caused by these WBC-related counts soaring in this fashion?   does the interferon become less effective in this scenario......perhaps it's a coincidence, but my ALT has risen from 33 to 51 since initiating the neupogen.   Have any of you had WBC and neutros shoot the moon to reach numbers this high?   A month ago I was 2.0 on WBC and .4 (21%) on neutros.

same here, mine went up to 12 something also once or twice.  Dr just said to take it every other week for awhile. He kept a good eye on my blood levels.

Sorry to have hijacked this thread, but I still have this God-awful rash that I wrote about over a month ago is still hanging on ferociously. But I may have stumbled onto quite accidentally. I started using sun-screen and it seems to have helped a little. The more sun and hot, spicey foods that I eat, the more I break out in mosquito-like bumps, then it turns into beet-red splotches and itches. It also feels like I am laying in a red-ant bed when it starts. I have times when there is no sign of it ans then there are times in the same day that I am covered in it. I am going crazy, people! A month and half is getting harder to endure. Hopefully, if I use the sun-screen, it will subside later on and I can get some rest.
I am just wondering if this sun reaction will subside after a time and let me be done with the Tx or will this be a permanent condition?
Any thoughts, Mike Simon, OHC, OkieJim,...anybody. The dermatologist is clueless. Ssomeone out there who has a similar reaction could help me, or at least let me know if there is an end to the symtoms down the road? It would be nice to know if there is an end to it sometime and am I on the right track with the sunscreen?  Thanks in advance for all the help!

This will be week 36 for me on tx and I have that rash on my upperchest come and go during tx and right now its driving me crazy too.  I am constantly itching!  I use tons of lotion daily and have some pills for it if it gets to be too much but other then that,,,,Just very annoying side.  I have noticed if outside and get hot,,,seems to break out worse.  If you have been off tx for awhile now,,,This should not be a problem so not sure.

hey ,how are ya? the rash still rears up on me after more than 6 months off tx not as severe or as often as time goes by, but it still appears .Usually only lasts for 2 or 3 days after application of cortate cream. I never had any previous skin problems so I think it is related to the withdrawal of the meds..convential wisdom says sx may last up to a year after tx. some of us just seem to have all the luck, I guess...Daryl

It happend to me too. It depends on the time of the blood test
after taking the neupogen. If you do it the next day of taking
the neupogen shot, it would be very high but if you have the test 4 days later you would get a normal result. In fact my doctor did decide to stop neupogen when he saw the blood work results but when I told him that I just got the shot of it yesterday, he orderd another blood test 3 days later and it came back normal. I think since you are off tx for as long as you have been it is time to go find another dermatologist or write to Dr Cecil...maybe the interferon/riba did something to your skin system.  I really have no idea, they usually try to rule out what may be causing it via your oral intake (food, drink, meds etc) and then environmental (laundry soap, softener, allergies to pets, dust, or ??).  One dermatologist and one liver doc dont know everything, so catch a bus or train and go find another one!!  Good luck to ya hon!  OHC

I have been off tx since the first week of July. It is driving me nuts! I am supposed to finally get in to the regular dermotologist Thur. Someone said something about being allergic to my own sweat. I don't care what it is, just give me something to stop some of the itching. Now that would be a blessing.
