WEIGHT LOSS OR WEIGHT GAIN

Hey...seems like threads have been kinda slow so just curious...how many people have either gained or loss or even stayed same on tx?  I'm at 10 weeks and lost 3lbs but the plus side is I'm eating alot of things that normally I probably would have put some weight on like pizza, ice cream etc.  Did you notice more of a weight change beginning, middle or even end?

I am week 12 and have lost around 8 to 10 lbs.  I can eat regular food, but small amounts, otherwise I get sick. My capacity is greatly diminished - which is a good thing.

But I have stomach pain all the time, probably exacerbated by the tx, this is not such a good thing.

Sometimes I tell myself I am on the most difficult diet.

Just checking back in after a while.

Honey, I gained weight on TX,maybe 6 pounds. I was allways very hungry! I was hoping that I would lose some weight on TX, I might be 15 lbs high. While on TX I whent on the see-food diet, If I saw food, I ate it!

I am about one month off TX now, 15 weeks peg/gopeg and a non responder. I am mentally OK with the non responce now, I am living a liver friendly life style and getting back to normal. I almost immediatly felt better and my energy level is back up to normal. I still have trouble running and riding up hill, I assume that my RBC and HGB is still low. I still have some trouble sleeping, I am trying to wean myself off sleep aids now.

I do miss all you guys and I honestly miss the battle over the dragon. I will get him though, just right now. When I do stop by the forum (and delphi's) I allways love to read when someone wins!

SVR to all!

I was just like Steve I gained a small amount of weight during both treatments. I was sure I would lose weight as so many people do, my Dr told me to make sure I eat enough and if I couldn't to contact him. After the first week of tx I found I could eat all I wanted after my morning sickness. I was usually nauseated in the morning more so the morning after a shot, but as the day wore on my appetite would grow.

How many of you are on an AD, how do you think it has helped ?

I lost 35 pounds during treatment.  Went from 195 to 160.

Mostly because I had no appetite and food tasted like ****.

Gained it all back now....

I'm right there with you, eat anything and not gain an ounce. no loss or gain, maybe 3lbs loss if any.   I am soooo going to be in trouble when i'm done with tx and keep eating this way! sweets and spicy food taste odd, but I see it, I eat it.
Must know I am a person who overate on OTC appetite suppressants, lol.
Only a few times I had stomach trouble, is now fixed with yogurt and pineapple chunks.

I lost about five pounds since starting treatment.  I was thin to begin with, but don't mind losing the extra five.  But I have found that I absolutely crave sweets now.  I was a sweetaholic before treatment, but it has gotten even worse now.  I don't understand that because everyone else says that sweets taste bad to them.  I am a vegetarian, but now for some reason, salads just gross me out.  I find I am eating a lot of carbs: breads, cereals (especially sweet ones); milkshakes, etc.  I'm not gaining weight but I feel bad that I am eating so unhealthy when I was pretty healthy before.  I only hope I can stop this sweet-eating nonsense when my tx is done in 36 weeks!

I too like sweets now. I hardly ever had a taste for them before. I think it's perhaps because I don't drink alcohol now so my body is craving the sugars/carbs it got from having wine with diner at night. Just a thought. LL

Hey Slarso...Hows it going? Sounds like you are starting to get back to some normalcy if there is any haha  Glad to see you here!

Tony ...No Ads here...Haven't really seen a need for them.  There is days that are somewhat down but hey...with tx..I guess there would be!

I was a big sweet lover before tx and now sweets make me somewhat nauseus..I do better eating alot of little things through day and am always craving Jello, applesauce, fruit now.  Mexican food was my favorite but it gives my stomach a hard time now. Its weird because at times I get really hungry for something and then when I actually get it...its not what I wanted.  Wow commodude...thats a lot of weight you lost. I'm trying to eat as much when hungry because I definitely don't want to get down too much.

I have lost 36 lbs. and eating causes severe stomach pain. I also take fluid pills where my legs swell so bad. Yesterday at the doctor's office I had lost 3.5lbs. in one week. This trileptal is leaving a metallic taste in my mouth and nausea so I am eating even less. There seems to be no middle road for me. Where do you get ginger at? Is it the spice? Thank you.

Slarso - good to hear from you.  I've been wondering how you were doing and also about your energy level.  Good to hear you are feeling good.

Honey -- I've lost 5-6 lbs (all in the first 10 days of tx).  Just did 23/48 last Friday.  I'm like you in that it seems I can eat more of the things now that pre-tx would have put lbs on me.  I like eating pizza, ice cream, etc and not gaining weight.  I worked really hard the first 6-8 wks to keep from losing any more weight though; just didn't think I could afford it so I ate all day long even though I wasn't hungry.  Went from 122 down to 116 lbs.  I've been maintaining my weight the last 4 months.

Sweets might taste odd, but I crave and gulp them down anyway. remember pac man? i feel like one gulping carbs as i walk along......G.....
Someone said riba acts like speed, so I guess we are using up all those calories, and the body is in need of that extra energy.  might not be the healthiest calories, but the body sometimes is odd in that it seems to crave what it desperately needs.
I remember one time I had Dengue(if anyone had it you know this tx pain is more like this than like the flu) and lost 10lbs in 4 days from the fever, my body was craving liver(i know) and brewer's yeast for weeks after.  must have needed the iron and b vits, and the body "knew" it.
is so painful to like sweets, crave them, they taste like ****, you still eat them and not feel "satisfied" aaarrrrgggghh!

bon apetit

And here I thought it was just a very difficult way to loose a few pounds, telling myself not to be concerned with the extra weight I am carrying, I'll just naturally loose it through tx!!!! But while we are on the topic, I NEVER eat breakfast and this has me wondering....is a piece of toast enough to have with our morning Riba, or do I have to force, like an egg, into me too?

I'm not a morning breakfast person either and usually try to eat a piece of toast with pills.  Some mornings...I do eat cereal or oatmeal but if not feeling good..anything just so you don't take them on empty stomach. Like piece of fruit or yogurt.

Catherine.....Yes, it's the spice. You can get that at the store, or go for the special dried stuff that Tony gets at the healthfood store, or just eat ginger snaps and ginger cookies. I am not sure if ginger als helps but I would think so. Ya gotta read the label for that.

Tony.......I never used AD's myself. I never had any problem with depression and was ready for the problems tx could bring so I just fought my way through. What fun that was.

Honey......I lost about 20 lbs on tx....and I was on the thin side to start with. I just was never hungry and couldn't eat much even when I did eat. I ate a lot of chocolate though which kept me from losing even more.
It all came back soon after I was done with tx.

I am finished with tx and I lost 25lbs during tx. It has been 4 months and I have only gained a few pounds back.
I took Lexapro starting about week 12. I was having trouble getting out of the house and would cry often. After being on Lexapro for a week, I had a total change of outlook. I felt great, at least until the next side hit. I have not recovered my strength and will continue the AD until then. I don't think I could have stayed on tx without it.
Hugs and prayers for all,
Barb

The riba can be very hard on your stomach. I made the mistake of taking it on an empty stomach just once.

Now I take it with yogurt and maybe a banana in the am. as long as I do not get any sicker, I think it is ok.

Currently on week 43/48 and I put on a whopping 2 pounds!  I went from 165 up to 167. My girlfriend is a gourmet cook so I eat very, very well and not in large amounts either.  My whole life I've never been a chow hound and was worried I'd be losing weight on tx.  Appetite is the same.

I lost about 9lbs. in the very beggining when the truck hit hard that first 6 weeks of TX, then it was like one morning about the 7th week I started feeling better and sides diminished and I went back to work full time and my appetite came back full force, I've read alot of people said food tasted different and alot said it tasted like plastic, while I was on pegasys+copegus the food never tasted different to me- I took saw palmeto- I read it boosts your appetite a little. I'm at week 40 and gained back the 9lbs. I lost in the beggining and then gained about 5lbs. I think the ones on the pegintron had more loss of appetite than those who took pegasys. I have a feeling your appetite is also cut because you have to drink so much water. When people go on diets they drink tons of water to fool the stomach in being full. But it's important not to lose to much weight, so eat even if your not hungry(if you can).I've also found Xanax makes me very hungry(like the old days when I use to puff on that "Red Bud"). Hope you do ok on your TX voyage- See Ya -- Harley Dude

I put weight on figgering I'd loose it,I'm small to begin with, but no haven't lost any, I'm at week 91/2, I'm a chef, and haven't had a problem in the food dept.I just make sure I eat with the riba, still have 14 1/2 weeks togo and hopefully the weight will come off at some point,I'm not in the kitchen right now though I've been bartending for the last couple of years.I was experiencing bloating or water retention just befor tx , but that seems to have gone.
