What is up with the nausea??

I had little to no nausea until now...Week 11.  I sure hope this is not an indicator that it's planning to stick around until Week 24.  Grrr.  I really, really don't want to swallow one more pill so is there anything you guys can recommend?  I'm doing the saltines and gingerale (is it supposed to be flat gingerale?)  I've had some yogurt with my dose of pills.  Everything seems to sit directly on top of my stomach and just ache.  Thoughts??

I had no noticeable side effects from Zofran. This does not mean no one has side effects, but I had none that I noticed. Most of the Zofran side affects are the same as I was already experiencing with the Interferon and Hep C drugs, so I would not know anyway, LOL.

http://www.drugs.com/sfx/zofran-side-effects.html

"All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Zofran:

Constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; headache; irritation, redness, pain, or burning at the site of injection; tiredness."

The site goes on to explain severe side effects but, generally speaking, most people do not get the severe side effects from drugs (any drugs).

I to have had nausea for the good part of five days and terrible car sickness, I just thought this was part and parcel and down to mt time of month. The only thing I found that helps is hot boiled water in the morning. But it's only a quick short . Have you had any raised red pin pricks of a rash I had this all on my lower arms and face but this too went away and flares up at times, I got to say the picture that everyone involved in my care painted about treatment. Well it was bad and always coming back to my mental health and the risk of suicide well after the fear of what to accept the treatment so far has not been so bad. Just things that are out my control like bloods counts . But so far it's the nausea and joint pain and my hearing and sight is enhanced bit bizarre but nothing to write home about, although I am only coming up to week 3 fourth shot this Friday so I think I'm bit quick of the mark. But I've really got to say thanks to everyone that takes time from the madness to reply to posts . Good luck with the nausea. Other thing that helped believe it or not was to eat something, this may sound ridiculous when feeling so **** but I found that to force something down did help that horrible queezy feeling. Good luck

You are so right!  I am a perfectionist and having these things randomly happening with no rhyme or reason is so against my grain.  I gotta let it go.

Oh my goodness, that's exactly how I feel.  Totally bloated up to my throat.  I can't sleep, I can barely sit.  It's so uncomfortable!  I read somewhere on here that Zofran had some lousy sx.  I hope that's not the case cuz I'm gonna ask my dr. for a prescription.  I do hate the idea of taking another pill, but I don't want to be a martyr, either.  Thank you so much for sharing your experience.  What would I do without you guys?!

It sounds like you are doing just about everything you can short of adding an anti-nausea med (which I would do in a heartbeat).

My nausea started about week 2. It was not too bad at the beginning but it gradually kept getting worse and worse. I had major abdominal bloating, so much that I felt like I was carrying a 60 pound baby, and so much that it encompassed my entire abdomen and way up to my chest and throat. I could barely force anything down. By week 9 it was just horrible. I had major other systemic symptoms as well, all apparently related to whatever was causing the nausea. Finally, in week 10 I demanded something for the nausea (as I was vomiting by then). I finally got Zofran, which I should have been on at week 2. Within a couple of days almost all of the symptoms disappeared (nausea, bloating, vomiting, fullness, dizziness, swollen ankles and feet, fast heart beats, and more) and within a week or so even the fast heart rate and early beats disappeared. I know everything was related to the same thing causing the nausea. Once that causal factor was blocked, the nausea disappeared and everything else went back to normal.

I can tell you this, if I ever have to do this treatment again, I will get on anti-nausea pills at the first sign of persistent nausea. Being miserable for several months is just not pleasant and it potentially adversely affects treatment (if one cannot eat or if one is vomiting). I know no one wants to take another pill. The thought is revolting. But I took those (very small) pills 3 times a day and they did wonders, turned everything around, and I could eat again and not feel like I was full up to my throat. To me taking another tiny pill 3 times a day was worth it.
