Hi, I am so glad to hear from you. You and your kids have been through so much! I am so glad you are clear and your kids are healing. My youngest son is so very angry, especially at me and at his dad for getting sick. Neither of my kids know I have Hep C. I really don't want them to know. At least not now. My oldest son does not have a good realtionship with his dad but regardless doesn't want him to die. It is so awful. The past week has been unbearable. I am looking for a therapist but dealing with the insurance co is a pain. No one in my area that accepts my ex's plan. I don't have a supportive family but do have a few good friends I confide in. The youngest is visiting his dad this weekend. I am so worried about him. We are going away on the 12th. I think this will be good for us. I hat that my kids have to also suffer because of this #$%^ disease.I am rambling, sorry, been keeping things bottled up.Thank you for your kindness and understanding. Knowing you and your kids came out ok makes me feel better. Please stay in touch with me.

Same ol', same ol' around here, huh? That's good! I missed you all. It was hard to get out of the pool to get hike a mile to get on the 'puter. I actually feel a bit better, of course you know how that goes! Today is good. I am hoping sx are getting better... Hey, my appearence looks better! I am one brown girl, no red eyes and I still have all my hair! I even did my roots.
I did shot number 15 about 6 hours ago. I seem to sleep through any sx if I take it around noon. Hope you are doing well.
I can't even use black pepper anymore. I just had some food with pepper on it and my bottom lip is burning up. Oh well, except for horseradish, I never liked spicy food too much.
I COULDN"T EAT Jerk Chicken at all this year. Just a little taste would swell my tongue and lips.
We had lots of room service and pool service. Eating while sitting in the pool is a favorite thing to do. I have gained some weight I think. I had lunch twice one day.
I heard it was 118 degrees at my house while I was gone. That is 18 degrees hotter than it ever is! Jamacia was not that hot! I can't wait to see what my daughter in law's mother who was housesitting ran my air conditioning bill up to.

Same ole. Same ole. Some say drinking is OK after SVR. Some don't. Some say there are post tx sides. Some say no. Some think Vertex is a glass half full. Some think it's half empty. Some have left. Some came back. Sometimes its the same person. Same ole. Same ole.
Welcome back.

This obituary is from the New York Times, August 2, 2006:
Dr. Jonathan Spicehandler, 57, Who Led Research at Drug Maker, Dies
By STEPHANIE SAUL
Published: August 2, 2006
Dr. Jonathan R. Spicehandler, a specialist in infectious diseases who led research and development for the drug maker Schering-Plough, died Sunday at his home in Short Hills, N.J. He was 57.
Dr. Robert J. Spiegel, chief medical officer for Schering-Plough, said the cause of death was cancer.
During 24 years at Schering-Plough, Dr. Spicehandler was involved in the development of some of the company’s most significant pharmaceutical products, including interferon, an anticancer and antiviral therapy; Claritin, a nonsedating antihistamine; and the cholesterol-lowering medicines Zetia and Vytorin.
Dr. Spiegel said that Dr. Spicehandler came to Schering during the early days of the company’s development of interferon and became enthusiastic about its potential.
“Nobody knew whether this would ever turn into anything or this was a fool’s errand,” he said. “With Dr. Spicehandler’s interest in it, he was a champion of continuing development to see what it would do.” The drug that resulted, Intron A, ultimately became a therapy for hepatitis and some forms of cancer.
Dr. Spicehandler was also involved in the subsequent development of a ribavirin, used with interferon to achieve a better response in hepatitis C patients, Dr. Spiegel said.
“Now over 50 percent of patients can really be treated and eradicate the virus from their systems,” he said.
Dr. Spicehandler was born in Brooklyn on Dec. 8, 1948, the son of Amiel Spicehandler, an accountant, and Florence Svransky Spicehandler. After a childhood in Oceanside and Lawrence, N.Y., he graduated from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., in 1970 and received his medical degree in 1974 from St. Louis University School of Medicine in Missouri.
He trained in his specialty, infectious diseases, at N.Y.U. and Bellevue Hospital Center before joining the pharmaceutical company Hoffmann-La Roche Inc.
Dr. Spicehandler joined Schering-Plough in 1982 as senior director for immunology. He served in a variety of capacities with the company, including vice president for operations and vice president for biological research, before his appointment as president of the company’s research institute in 1993.
From 2002 until his retirement in June, he was chairman of the institute, serving as a scientific adviser to the Schering-Plough operating committee and management.
In addition to his mother, Dr. Spicehandler is survived by his wife, Debra Friedlander Spicehandler, and four children, Daniel, Alexandra, Benjamin and Rebecca.
Dr. Spicehandler is also survived by his brother, David Spicehandler of Bedford, N.Y., and his sister, Dr. Debra Ann Spicehandler of Pleasantville, N.Y.
