¡What to do: Peg Redipen accidently frozen!

Week 17 Geno 1a
I have two shots remaining in my current Redipen refill and one shot is ok.
Due to a freak accident/mistake one of my (PEG-Intron RedipenPeg)  the other Redipen was frozen.
How this happened has been corrected.

The RediPen is a single use self injectible,
It looks like this:

I am uncertain as:
1) how to "unfreeze"
2) will the syringe function
3) if the integrity (i.e., efficacy/potency)  of the medicine itself been compromised

Thanks~
k

Thanks for the advice~

Replacing the shot was easier than I thought (so used to hassling for everything).

Called Be In Charge at the above number and the nurse said she would ship the shot to my doctor's office, All is on schedule :)

Geno 1a/week 18.
I will find out Monday, 12/22 whether I will need the shot or not  :c

DONT USE IT - I agree 100%, call right away.

Unbelievably, the drug companies are pretty good (I guess cause they DO in fact get so much money out of us in the long run so we are a good investment or something) but I bet they will help you right away.

I had two redipens that jammed up on me over the course of treatment and had them replaced at the pharmacy - no problem.

Finally I switched over to use the regular syringe. They send you the tablets of medication and bottles of saline. You take the saline and put it in the vial and then drop the tablet in and it dissolves and you just draw it up with the syringe and inject it. I'd never self injected anything before treatment (in case that matters) but it was easy as pie.

That way I couldn't freeze them and they didnt' jam up on me or cause me any problems.

See if your doc can switch you over........in the end I was SO glad I did it I probably couldn't have in the beginning when I was so nervous but it works out great.

I believe freezing the IFN breaks down the proteins; I wouldn’t even attempt to use it. Call the pharmacy that you purchased it, or contact Schering Plough’s hot line:

1-888-437-2608 and they will be able to direct you to someone that will replace it free of charge. This has happened to others in here; some people have frozen their meds, others have let them get hot; either way, call the number and talk to one of the reps.

Good luck—

Call the be in charge nurse. This happened to be once in my first tx. Was told not to use and they replaced it for free. Best to you
