Which hepatitis c antibody test is most accurate?

08/16/2016 Siemens Advia Centaur HCV antibody value: reactive, Ref range: nonreactive. HCV Qnt by PCR Interpretation: Not detected, Ref interval:Not Detected. 11/21/2016 Abbott Architect (CMIA)Hep C Antibody IA value:Negative,Ref Range & Units: Negative. HCV RNA by PCR value: HCV RNA not detected by PCR.Comment : Reference Range:Negative for HCV RNA.1.Which of the above 2 HCV  test antibodies (methodology) is more accurate:Abbott Architect or Siemens Advia Centaur? 2.Does a person with above results have hepatitis C? 3. Should person with above results have another test in 3 months, eventhough  he does not have any risks for hep C,except for seeing dentist in January and having root canal, and also tetanus/diphteria/whopping cough vaccine shot in January 2016?If he needs another antibody  test in 3 months, which hepatitis C  antibody methodology would be the best to test with?Thank you

Hi.  Our member has patiently and completely answered your question.  Your tests indicate that you are negative for hepatitis C.  If you are requiring further discussion, this should be with your doctor.  We wish you the best and are now closing this thread.

The antibody test and HCV RNA test are looking for different things. Antibodies are not the virus they are made by your own body in response to being exposed to the hep c virus although sometimes there are occasionally false positive antibody test results. Also about 25% of people are able to fight off the virus without medicines.

On the other hand the HCV RNA is testing for the presence on the hepatitis c virus itself. Your test the HCV Qnt by PCR was a test for the virus itself and not antibodies. My assumption is they used your sample which tested positive for hep c antibodies and automatically tested the sample for the virus. Your test result for the virus said not detected so my assumption is you are not infected with hep c.

As you tested positive for antibodies that could mean you were exposed at sometime in the past and were able to fight off the virus on your own. Or pisdiple you may have had a false positive on the antibody test. But bottom line your test for the hep c virus itself the HCV RNA by PCR was not detected so it would appear you do not have hep c.

However I am just a layperson I am a patient who was formerly infected with hep c.

For a proper medical interpretation you should discuss these results with your doctor prefferably the one who ordered your tests.

Which above hepatitis C antibody method is more accurate: Abbott Architect (chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay) or Siemens Advia Centaur (chemiluminescennt immunoassay)?

I am not a medical lab technician but the HCV RNA by PCR is prof one way our the other if you are infected or not. Yours says not detected so you do not have hep c.

The differences nrtween the antibody tests are a moot point and don't matter as the test for the actual virus vs the test for antibodies showed you are not detected. The relative accuracy of the antibody tests is of no consequence as you don't have hep c.
Or you can do the same as I would have to do and google search the subject and go to scholarly sites about the relative accuracy between the tests. If you are curious about the differences between the 2 antibody tests. But in any event your conflicting antibody tests are of no consequence. Your HCV RNA by PCR test said no virus detected that is the only result that is important.
Do I need more follow up hepatitis C testing?
You tested negative on the HCV RNA by PCR test you do not have hep c.
Are you saying since I tested 2 times not detected or negative by PCR I don't need no more hepatitis C testing? What about hepatitis C antibody?
The antibody test is used for a possible infection. The HCV RNA by PCR test is how they determine if you are currently infected with the hep c virus.

The antibody test don't matter it only checks for possible previous exposure. Thr only test that matters is the HCV RNA test which proves you do not have hep c.

The hep c antibodies are not the virus they are made by your body when you are exposed to the virus. Antibodies are a part of your immune system they are you. Just like if you had the measles or were immunized against it you have measles antibodies. You will have these antibodies for life.

You should really discuss this with your doctor maybe they can explain all this to you. Again I am not a doctor so anything I have said is from a lay person for medical advice please speak with your doctor.
I was thinking of having LABCORP  HCV Antibody Verification test. Does anyone on this forum know, whether LABCORP  HCV Antibody Verification test non reactive or negative result proves that Siemens Advia  Centaur antibody positive result was false positive?
