Will the pain go away?

I recently have been told I have hepatitis.  I had a pain in my stomach and I had a bad fever, so I went to the hospital.  Basically the doctor said it was hepatitis, but he said it was detected really early and all I can take is tylenol for fever and pain relief.  I am just wondering if there is anything else I can do or whether it will go away on its own.  I hate waking up covered in sweat and I want the pain in my stomach to go away.  I want to go back to work.

I am not sure what type of Hepatitis it is...the doctor didn't say so i just picked this forum.

Any information or help would be grateful.

Where do you live? In the U.S.? Hep A doesn’t have a chronic phase, and they manage it by keeping the patient hydrated; it will go away after several months. Other viral hepatitis may need more comprehensive management and possibly treatment with medications. Have you ever used IV drugs? Had blood transfusions before 1990? Work in a job that could expose you to blood or blood products?

FYI - as far as I know stomach pain has nothing to do with your liver.

Please continue to follow up with a good GI doc or heptologist to find out what is going on.

Well I have to wait for my blood results to verify everything.  So I have to wait to see the doctor.  I really hope I can treat this and feel better.  Thanks for replying.

You are going to need to follow up and see what kind of hepatitis you have. Hepatitis simply means ‘swelling of the liver’; it can come from virus, alcohol consumption, certain medications, etc.

If it is viral, you’ll want to know how to manage it. Can you call your doctors office this morning, and have them tell you exactly what you were diagnosed with? And also if it’s acute of chronic? That information is essential before you can take the next steps.

Hope you feel better soon—

Bill
