"Though rare, stiff necks lasting more than 4 hours should be reported to your doctor."  rrrrruff.

Seriously, Viagra, like so many drugs, is metabolized in the liver, and I'm pretty sure there is a warning in the literature regarding use by people with liver disease/damage.  After my prostatectomy in 2002, the surgeon recommended that I take a low dose of Viagra daily, which I did for about a year.  I do wonder now how much of a part that played in the deterioration of my liver.  Heck, I probably would have taken it anyway; at certain times some things seem SO important  My liver doc says occasional use is fine, but to use the lowest effective dose.  Of the 3 drugs for male sexual dysfunction, Viagra, Levitra and Cialis, Cialis is the most toxic to the liver, and carries the strongest warning.

Hope the info helps, and the Viagra too!

I had no idea that Viagra affects liver.
I will tell my boyfriend about that. He takes it from time to time.
He currently is undergoing tx, week 12.
Lots of side effects, the worst - sores in throat, lesion under his tounge. He can't eat, drink nor talk. Lost 18 lbs.
He takes pain killers but is afraid of possible addiction.
Anybody has the same side effects? Any suggestions in terms of diet?

There is a oral solution to treat the pain in the mouth and throat, it is call Oncology Mouthwash.
It is made up of lidocaine, Malanta. It will completely numb the mouth and throat for 1/2 to 1 1/2 hour, its not addictive and can be used as needed. It worked great for me during TX has my mouth was full of open sores for many months.

Have your Dr prescribe some for him

Yes, he uses that solution, but it only numbs his mouth for 10 minutes.
He tried everything, some other strong solutions, but still can't talk much. Eats vanilla yogurt and ice cream only.
I am worried that he thinks about stopping tx, he is 12/24 and so far it's been okay except for the sores and lesion under his tounge that doesn't heal (low white cell count).
Does anybody know about some other foods that are dense in calories, bland and vegetarian? He also had throat cancer 5 years ago and can't swallow well.
Thanks

I had  sores & cuts around the corners of my mouth & it was an ordeal while eating. I used refrigerated Ensure Plus liquid nutrition to restore my depleted calories while on Tx. This liquid provides a good daily vitamin intake as well which is missed by not ingesting solid foods. I was also on Tx for 24 weeks & beat this virus since genotype 2 and 3 are easier to annihilate in comparison to others.
Pls let your boyfriend stay the course of Tx.....he has an 80% chance of clearing this DEMON.
Good luck all,
Ben

how about baby food...or blending up dinner (a meat, potato,vegie)...or protien shakes...i think you need a nutritionist...because not eating can actually be bad for your liver...if some one is malnurished it can cause fatty liver...

try in blender:

turkey or chicken
gravy
sweet potato
cranberry
vegie

or

meatloaf or beef
mashed potato
gravy
vegie

or

tofu
rice
vegie
sauce
almonds or cashews

*spoon feeding opptional :O)

Sorry, but just the thought of eating a blended hot meal makes me want to hurl my tacos. I hope I don't get sores. Is this prevalent when on tx?

:O) :O) :O) i don't think it's that common...i have never gotton mouth soars...

there are only a couple people here that comment on that problem...

Now, as to the "adult baby food"...it all goes to the same place anyway...

i take it you are one who doesn't mix up their foods on the plate...never the twain shall meet so to speak!!!

you gotta look at it like it's "abc" food...already been chewed!!! lol

i suppose you could blend each item separately, use a long spoon and bypass the soars and taste buds entirely and swallow... :O)~

now doesn't that sound better??? it's all in the name of killing the dragon!!!...

:O) just having some fun here, have a great day...sandi

Thank you for advise. He is a vegetarian.
Spicy food is out of question, but even the process of swallowing hurts a lot. Even drinking water.
He started tx at 220 lbs, now he is down to 198. He is 6'2.
Baby food is an option, I haven't thought about it.
Thanks again

happythoughts, sorry he's in such a bad way...i thought of blending certain foods cause my sister used to make her own baby food this way and then she could controll what went into it. i surely hope something works so he can eat...i wonder if straws would help?

i pray that you guys find a solution...sounds like he's lost a lot of weight and doesn't have much to spare...

I am also a vegetarian.  When I was on treatment, the only food I liked was bread and ice cream.  Lost about 12# during treatment, but it's all coming back (boo hoo) now that I've been off treatment for a couple of months.  Maybe the ice cream would make his mouth feel better and numb it at the same time!  Also, there is another mouthwash which I can't remember the name of.  A lot of people here use it, but it just isn't coming to me at the moment.  Maybe someone will log on and give you the name of it.  They say it is very helpful for the mouth sores.

Thank you all. I read your postings every day, but he doesn't want to read them, thinks that they are too depressing.
There is no way we are stopping the treatment. He is 2 B, so the chances are great.
However, being in constant pain causes him to feel depressed, isolated and irritable.
There is also skin breaks, especially on fingers. Hair loss.
Insomnia. He takes Ambien, but it's highly addictive.
So it's the story. I am trying to stay positive.

"almost as if all nerve endings everywhere were oh high alert."
Wow, I think I'll jump start my wife with this stuff.

"i take it you are one who doesn't mix up their foods on the plate...never the twain shall meet so to speak!!!"
Is grits groceries? Well, I do like mixing some foods, but I guess I'm with Rudyard on the twain thang.

You girls are cracking me up! Stop it. jk

try 3M skin crack repair for the skin splits, it helps a lot. Use a good quality moisturizer with Urea and petroleum jelly as needed. depression comes from feeling like **** day in and day out...but it is a temporary discomfort to a permanent solution.
